Re: Prayers for our friends to the south

Thanks for the kind words and for keeping us in your prayers.

Much of Houston (including my family) have been spared, but many are still in a rough way. We have some friends and family on the north side who are still having a tough time of it.

To help this hit home (for a bunch of shooters), let me share what happened to one of our biggest shooting ranges here on the west side of Houston, the American Shooting Center in George Bush Park.

(While the images below look horrible, the good thing is that this park was specifically designed as a flood zone to keep the water away from homes. So when this is underwater, it's doing exactly what it was designed to do. Here in Houston, we've got flood reservoirs designed as parks. Most of the time, it's good family fun, with a dog park, shooting range, RC airport, soccer fields, etc. However, when mother nature gets on a tirade, the park serves a much more useful purpose.

For that, we on the west side of Houston are grateful. My family and I live only about 2000 smoots from this park, as the crow flies. Without it, we'd likely be underwater in our home.)

Here's what it looks like on a good day, with the radio-controlled aircraft field in the foreground.

At about 1:50 into this video you can see the it completely underwater, along with the RC field.

And it's not the first time this place has flooded. Check out another video from just about a year ago.
