Re: Off The Beaten Path - Sonora, TX

I'm surprised there is no mention of the Caverns of Sonora. Discovered originally in the 1920s, with another major discovery in the 50s, the caverns contain some of the most beautiful and unique cavern formations in the world. It is well worth a visit.

Re: MI: Her wife shot her 11 times and she survived

I get amused by you young whippersnappers, and your adamancy about clip vs. magazine. It was quite common in WWII and VN to call a M1911 bullet holder a "clip".

Re: Fort Sam Houston

It was partly due to Gen Pershing’s experience in Texas that lead him to propose a network of military capable highways around the US for national defense. He even drew up a map of proposed roadways. Compared to today’s Interstate highway system, it is very similar. Today’s Eisenhower Interstate Hig...

Re: Fort Fisher

We've been talking about it for a while. Our grandson would love it. He's 10 y.o. They also have a dinosaur museum/(or something like that) as well. Just need to find time to do it. The silos are another reason to go. She's hooked on Fixer Upper. Even watches reruns of it. :yawn Once is enough for ...

Re: Fort Fisher

The Texas Ranger Museum is on the Brazos river walk that connects it to the famous suspension bridge (first bridge across the Brazos), and Indian Spring Park, where there is still an active underground spring that flows into the Brazos.

Drop your wife at the Silos and go see the Ranger museum.

Re: Quarter Cock

Well, how do you lower the hammer down? You would have to do it after racking the slide and now you have a round in the chamber. This seems to me to be a very unsafe practice. I realize the firing pin is not exposed and does not touch primer, but why would you want to do this? I just rely on the thu...

Re: FWPD Sgt Doesn't know LTC law

I received this reply from the reporter of the original story: "I did hear back from Sgt. Daniels and he apologized for the incorrect information. We ran a correction in print and corrected the story online. Thanks for pointing out the error." A small win. Added: I found the printed correction in th...

Re: Wisdom from Robert Heinlein

I've enjoyed what I've read from him, my favorite being Starship Troopers. That book has the "There are no dangerous weapons; there are only dangerous men." quote in it. "Starship Troopers" was also the book that advocated service to obtain citizenship, only then could you vote or hold public offic...

Re: FWPD Sgt Doesn't know LTC law

I was going to post this to their FB page, but decided to not do so in such a public way. I e-mailed their training department. I agree this was a good call. But the Sgt did make a public statement. I also emailed the reporter about the factual error. She emailed back that she would contact the off...

FWPD Sgt Doesn't know LTC law

This was a pretty good apparently non-baised article about red flag laws and alerting police about MWAG https://www.dallasnews.com/news/crime/2019/08/11/can-texas-cops-gun-legal-troubled-owner-raise-alarm-red-flag-law-el-paso-walmat-mass-shooting However, then I read this "But if someone's in a liqu...

Re: TX: Houston CHL sentenced to 20 years for murdering attorney over dispute over handicapped parking spot

I wish that LEO's would pull through every lot they pass and cite those abusing handi spots... after a month or so, no one would do it anymore and both sides of this problem would go away. Haha - I got challenged by a LEO for parking in a HC spot, wanted to know where my hang tag was. Didn't bother...

Re: TX: Houston CHL sentenced to 20 years for murdering attorney over dispute over handicapped parking spot

Be careful shaming people for "looking able bodied". Looks can be deceiving. Prime example is someone with a serious heart condition. They can't walk very far without being winded or extremely tired. They look just fine but they are not. Chemo patients are the same way. I am sure others can think o...

Re: Do you have anything on you or in your truck?

I also forgot to mention that I was stopped just a few weeks ago for an illegal passing (I didn't but that's another story). I was carrying and did not show my LTC with my DL. I got a warning, the LEO never mentioned my LTC and never asked about a gun. Surely he ran my DL and would have e seen I had...
