That's my take on it also. The take away I get is you can carry just about anywhere if you're willing to pay $200 for the privelige. I am very curious to read what Charles' opinion is because it looks like the committee removed several sections of the original bill.

But, hey, i'm more than happy to get the Class C reduction.

Re: HB308

I'm anxious to hear Charles' assessment as you know there's bound to be committee substitutions and compromises. But its good to see movement because I was afraid it was going to die in committee. Give a little...get a little.

Re: HB308

Didn't the original bill reduce 30.06 to a Class C?

Stole some of Charles' language about "OC will be nice, but 308 will save lives."
FWIW... Received the following from the Gov. office yesterday.
Good to know that at least my opinion was tallied.
That's a good idea. I did contact Collier and Burton earlier, but not the Gov. It's still a mystery to me why every CHL holder in Texas isn't beating down doors to get this bill passed. The sense I get is that not every CHL holder will use OC but we would all benefit from HB308. I realize it may have some sticking points for some, but there's no discussion or measurable movement of any kind at working toward a compromise to get it out of committee.

Re: HB308

Charles, I want to join the others in saying 'Thanks" for representing us all. Personally, I'd much rather see HB308 passed than either CC or OC. I'm not throwing rocks at either one, just that I see more gains from HB308. I work for a private higher ed institution that given me permission to carry, so CC is moot and I'm yet to come to grips with how often or where I'd open carry. My dad is in an Oklahoma VA center and I'm there quite often and have yet to see anyone OC'ing. It just seems to me that HB308 give us CHL holders more.

OCT/OCTC have created so many hurdles to over come and so much bad press that I"m afraid they have severely damaged, if not outright killed, HB308. So, Charles you're the great political guru tell us how to help get this bill off high center and I'll do what I can. There's too much at stake.

Re: HB308

Not seeing any movement on this bill. I'm afraid it got lost in all the furor about campus carry and open carry. I contacted Sen Burton and Rep. Collier about supporting it and have not received a response. It seems the longer it languishes in committee the more likely it is to die there.

Re: HB308

Now that this bill has been left pending in committee what are the chances it's going to die there? I didn't get a chance to watch the hearing today, but did I read correctly that preachers and clergy were opposing this bill? That's odd to me since I've brought many a sermon with a S&W on my hip. Maybe some of you who have a better understanding of this bill can educate me, but I don't see what's in it to oppose. Do i understand correctly that, although this bill expands our carry rights, it does not override 30.06?

Re: HB308

I've been watching this bill as well. It's regrettable its being stalled. I'm on board with whatever needs to be done to get this bill untracked. I agree this bill is more important than any other on the agenda. Since I'd rather see our carry ability expanded and the 30.06 decriminalized this bill approaches that goal.
