Re: Another special session?

Working in the business, I would bet there are as many irresponsible 21 year olds on the street as in the school. You know of course that there can be guns in cars now - so that horse has left the barn.

How many CHL gun fights over gals have there been outside of school?

Last, what about the force recon marine going to night school or the older veterans going to night school that I know. Or the mother with several kids who wants to carry and going to night school?

Campus carry seems to be mostly a flop - even laws that allow it give discretion to the schools (what a surprise). Thanks, Rick - for you support - once again.

Re: Another special session?

Yep, we don't need the government in our wallets, holsters, religions or crotch. Nor recording every phone call or internet message.

Amazing how some only want to protect a subset of liberty but are tyrants on other domains.

Rick, Bloomberg - take your pick - choose how they want to control you.

Re: Another special session?

From the NRA-ILA
In addition, according to the Austin American Statesman, public university officials -- many of whom have strongly opposed NRA-backed campus personal protection bills -- are urging him to add nearly $3 billion in construction bonds, otherwise known as "tuition revenue bonds" or TRBs, to the list of issue items the House and Senate will consider during this second special session. In fact, state Representative Dan Branch, a Republican from Dallas who is considering a run for statewide office, filed a TRB bill during the first special session.

Surely if the Governor were to expand the call of this session's agenda and add a higher education priority item like TRBs, then he would also add a priority Second Amendment issue like campus carry, right? And certainly, the Republican Senate and House leadership which has expended enormous amounts of political capital attempting to address other issues would put that same energy and focus into passing pro-gun legislation if it were added to the agenda, correct? These are questions that Second Amendment advocates -- including the more than 500,000 CHLs in Texas -- deserve an answer to going into 2014 when nearly all statewide officials and state lawmakers will be running for re-election or (as mentioned) higher office.
Need I say more!

I also heard briefly that the Senate was dropping the 2/3's rule to rush the abortion bill through. The 2/3's rule is what sunk some gun bills. Hmmmm!

Rick, oh - Rick - where are thou?

Re: Another special session?

The issue is simple. Perry was willing to go the extra step for one issue with vim and vigour. He would not for ours. This is not the first time as he didn't in the previous session.

About walking and chewing gum - do you have to shoot a coyote too? I apologize for this snide remark.

If he had not made a point of speaking in favor of carry everywhere, I would not be so harsh.

Re: Another special session?

We must disagree on whether he stepped up to the plate to counter the problems existing in the legislature.

Re: Another special session?

From the forum rules:

11. Off-topic posts/threads: Since they tend to cause the most problems for other boards, our "off-topic" sub-forum is not an "anything goes" area. Absolutely no discussions of religion, immigration/border security, abortion, race matters, or any other hot-button political issues. (Gun-related political issues can be discussed in other areas.)
I might suggest that discussing the merits of abortion are not germane to whether Perry steps up for gun rights. If one is happy with his focus, good for you or not. However, I am concerned that he has the opportunity and has several times to be proactive on campus carry (and other gun issues) and doesn't take the time.

The students, faculty and staff at Virginia Tech or Northern Illinois and perhaps future victims in TX (remember the AK guy lately at UT) might view the issue as important.

Re: Another special session?

1. Doesn't make sense.

2. The work - his crusade against abortion? Actual legislation on how to run the place isn't that. He goes and makes speeches about abortion and the opposition. Where was the speech about gun rights the other day?

3. He refused to use his powers in the previous legislative session, way back when.

You cannot but conclude is that the campus carry issue is one that doesn't drive him and we should stop making excuses for him.

Says that the session could last for 30 days and take up capital punishment and transportation issues.

Campus carry could take just a little bit of time, Rick. Time to step up to your rhetoric. Or does it only count on other issues?

Re: Another special session?

Perry had to have the special session to respond to the gallery outburst at the close of the last session. There has to be consequences of mob actions.
Oh, yeah - where are the consequences for him ignoring e-mails, faxes, etc. on the gun bills. Where was the RKBA outburst when the Senate did squat on campus carry?

Give me a break. It is all political.

Re: Another special session?

Has anyone from the gun rights world, like the TSRA, physically asked or directly e-mailed, etc. Perry to put campus carry on the agenda? Has he answered?

Otherwise, we will have the same set of posts proclaiming that faxes, smoke signals and voodoo dolls will make this issue come to fruition.

If he is only having a hissy fit over abortion - I think we can count him NOT as a proactive friend of the RKBA. Yep, he will sign and flap his gums but on this issue will he stand up?
