Re: HAM study material

I was thinking about wine as it is essentially just windows APIs for the host OS. I should look into it myself with my macbook pro, but I lack a CD drive on it.

Re: HAM study material

I recently purchased the Gordon West study guide and software that Charles Cotton recommended: http://www.w5yi.org/catalog_details.php?pid=82&sort=5 . Be advised that it is PC only - which I learned to my chagrin when it arrived, because I’m a wall-to-wall MAC guy. :/ Fortunately, both my son and D...

Re: Someone push me...

The Gordon West book and software came in today while the radios came in yesterday. I also have the Dan Romanchik Study Guide (PDF format) downloaded. With that said I have downloaded, compiled, and run CHIRP (I am an old school Linux user, yes I know about the packet radio drivers in the Linux kern...

Re: Someone push me...

So, I have ordered the Gordon West study guide and software package along with two Baofeng UV-5R radios (I figure an HT and mobile unit for both of my vehicles in the near future) and a programming cable for them. With these items I have committed myself to a technician license, and in all honesty I...

Re: Someone push me...

My interest in HAM comes from a number of factors. First is the weather, I'm about an hour south of Lubbock so Tornadoes are less than common, but not rare either. Hail, high winds, and more are more common weather threats. The second reason is Offroading in my Jeep, While most events has everyone u...

Someone push me...

I didn't want to revive a dead topic, or hijack someone else's so I'll start this one. I am sitting on the fence, and I need to be pushed off one way or another in regards to Ham radio. Time is a commodity I don't have a lot of, but seeking a technician license would ensure my need to learn somethin...

Re: "Ash Devil"

While 1200 Acres, or even 2 sections (2 square miles or 1280 Acres) really isn't a very big wild fire this one had potential to be much more damaging. The original call had been for a number of small fires along the side of the road, while the VFD was extinguishing others two grew, merged, and sprea...

"Ash Devil"

People Please be mindful of the fire danger, especially if you are in drought conditions. We recently had a small wildfire that burned over twelve hundred acres (almost two square miles). The day after the fire the editor of the local paper asked me to get some drone images of the burn scar, which w...

Re: Hospitals MUST post 3006/3007?

I have no clue who this Holcomb guy is, but I would ask Mr Holcomb if he had personally spent as much time involved in the actual writing of the relevant CHL/LTC law as Charles has done, or if he was as personally involved (as in “lobbyist to politician” personally) in the legislative intent of tho...

Re: Oklahoma House passes "Constitutional Carry" bill

She signed HB 2177 which allows the 10 commandments on public property (which most likely will be ruled unconstitutional) and vetoed a Constitutional Carry bill. Go figure. I guess we need to know where our Governor will be ahead of time if it ever comes up in Texas. No reason to pass a law that wi...

Re: Calaveras and Braunig Lakes

Keep in mind that bad facts and bad defendants create bad case law. If someone with a CPR card runs past a 30.06, administers CPR, saves a life, and gets arrested for criminal trespass we will get different case law than a man ignoring a 30.06, seen acting acting belligerent, and arguing with office...

Re: Benbrook PD Called for Gun Tshirt in Park

The male could have exercised better judgement wearing a shirt about controlling guns and kids to a kids park while visibly armed, but he broke no law from what I have read. The female in the story was trying to cause a panic from what I understand by 'warning' people about 'A man with a gun in the ...

Wrong, 30.06 and 30.07 use the term property, not premises.
