I didn’t have any sons but was blessed with two beautiful daughters. They’re both grown now but I agree with the previous sentiments. They’re gone before you know it so enjoy it now. Both can shoot and we still make it to the range occasionally (one keeps a range bag in her car). Neither currently carries but they can both take care of themselves. Any person foolish enough to break into their homes will be met with a rude awakening - one keeps a 20ga. handy and the other has a PX4 (9mm). The younger one recently built her first AR and I was enlisted to "help" so that was fun. Shooting/hunting is just one more great excuse to spend some quality time with your kid. Enjoy!
Regretfully, none of my six daughters has any interest in shooting. The youngest likes to go to the range with us and thinks the using the UpLULA is fun. Oh, well, three out of nine ain't bad (apologies to Meat Loaf). :biggrinjester:

Middle Age Russ wrote: Tue Aug 21, 2018 8:15 am I am reminded of Proverbs 22:6. "Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it." Ingraining responsible gun handling habits in our youngsters is a great way to ensure a lifetime of positive experiences in shooting sports.

For example, On Sunday he asked me to take the training wheels off of his bicycle. So I did and he learned to ride it. I also took the child safety lock off of the door on his side of the car so that he can get him self out of the car in the school drop-off line.

In one month from today, he will turn 6 and I am going to give him a BB gun and teach him how to shoot. I got him this Daisy Buck BB gun. I also picked up a pair of safety glasses for him, a foam target, and a 2400 BBs.

I'm looking forward to teaching him safe handling and can't wait to get him shooting with it. For storage it's either going to go in the safe with my guns or on the top shelf in my bedroom closet so that he can't get to it without supervision, and knows that it's not a toy. His Granddad already has a Davey Crickett .22 waiting for him once he's mastered the BB gun.

Congrats you your youngun's progress. My 3 sons grew up with a Red Ryder. The oldest now has his LTC and carries an S&W M&P M2.0 Compact, concealed. I'm taking my three sons, my youngest brother, and my father back to KR Training for a class next month. My father will be carrying the S&W M&P M2.0 Compact that his children and grandchildren got him for his birthday (86 in September).

You have many more milestones ahead. I'm sure you have heard it before, they grow up fast. Cat's in the Cradle, etc.
