OP: I hope your son tells all his friends what a great time he had and about DD not wanting 18-20yo business.
Trust me, he has! I heard him talking to friends last night. He had a great time at the convention, and he and his friends do not have a positive view of DD due to this.

We just had a post about Ellen's with a definite anti gun note on their receipts. No question Ellen's is anti 2A. But DD?
We have so many groups to criticize for their anti 2A beliefs, Dick's, Yeti, Citigroup, National Car rental, you name it. Do you really believe Daniel Defense is anti 2A?
I believe that DD has erred on their position in the past, and appears to err on it again when dealing with folks under the age of 21. And, I have asked DD, but they have not responded as of yet. It's not the first time a 2A company did something that didn't really support 2A. Ruger supported banning of high capacity magazines. S&W made a deal with the Clinton administration. Springfield Armory and Rock River Arms have also been under the microscope lately... so this is not the first time that a pro-gun business has made a dumb move to alienate itself from the gun community.

I really don't see this much different than that of Yeti, to be honest. Yeti decided not to do business with the NRA. Daniel Defense decided not to do business with a subset of NRA members, specifically 18 to 20 year olds... We blasted Yeti and supported the NRA position. The NRA has stated that they do not support raising the age to purchase rifles, so I have also emailed the NRA to let them know what happened at the convention and asked if this is acceptable coming from an Exclusive Guardian Sponsor.

Re: Daniel Defense - Friend or Foe

And to address Rotors comment that "Many people at the convention are from states that don't allow rifles to under 21"... Many people were at the convention, very few under 21, and I bet that most of those who were under 21 were from Texas... Now is not the time to push the 18 to 20 year old crowd away. We need as many of them on our side as we can get. From looking at the crowd at the convention, the average age of NRA members seems to be north of 40... This simply should not have happened at the NRA convention.

Started to, but my son said forget it... didn't want to waste his time at the convention. But not sure that there is a valid why when every other booth let him sign up for the drawings for long guns. He just couldn't sign up for the handguns because of his age and their inability to transfer to him.
Rather then guess and wonder, you just should have asked. Then your post would have been much more (or less) interesting.
No, shouldn't have to ask... Person who is of legal age to purchase the firearm should be able to participate in the vendor marketing at a 2A convention... anything else should be unacceptable!
Obviously we are not dealing with YETI or Dick's. Had you just asked you might have walked away with a good answer. Or perhaps not. Many people at the convention are from states that don't allow rifles to under 21. That seems most plausible to me. Better than defaming the company.
See next

Four states have requirements to be 21 to purchase rifles... that means 46, or 92% do not. I'm not defaming them... I am telling what they did at the convention, and they have done other questionable things regarding 2A support in the past. Again, there is not a "good answer" for turning away a person who could legally purchase your product.

No other vendor that had drawings for rifles had that issue. And per the data at Giffords Law Center, only Hawaii and Illinois require you to be 21 to purchase a rifle.

http://lawcenter.giffords.org/gun-laws/ ... age/#state
And Florida and Vermont.
Not per that website... Florida says 18 to purchase long gun, Vermont says 16.
Both Florida and Vermont just passed new laws limiting all gun purchases to 21 and over.
Hmmm, didn't realize they had passed... Still seems like DD supports those measures, as they simply could state in the terms and conditions that the winner had to be eligible to have the firearm transferred to him in accordance with state and local laws.

Re: Daniel Defense - Friend or Foe

Let me put it this way... The March For Our Lives kids are saying you are either for us, or against us. My son is of that age group, a registered voter, and is against them... However, if he is pushed away by the very gun community that he supports, why should he continue to support it?

I just find it hard to categorize a company with the product line of Daniel Defense as anti-gun or anti-2nd Amendment.
You would think that, but when their actions tend to line with pro gun control groups, it does make you think... I mean, one of the things that the March for Our Lives kids are demanding is that the age to purchase an "assault weapon" would be raised to 21. Seems like DD supports this idea by turning away 18 yr olds at their boot at the NRA convention.

Would you think Dick's Sporting Goods would have done what they have done lately?

You don't think that it is a bad business decision to tell a consumer who could legally purchase your product that they can not participate in your marketing campaign at an industry trade show? Is it smart to alienate consumers of your product when they first reach legal age to buy your product?

Wasn't a raffle, was a drawing... no purchase necessary. My son purchased a ticket for a raffle from another vendor.

I personally wouldn't" sell a gun to someone under 21, unless I knew them very well. But I wouldn't sell a gun to a nonLTC holder unless I knew them well.
But are you in the business of manufacturing and selling guns?

They have had others... The gun community has responded to them on another gun control issue that they supported and the CEO apologized and walked back his comments, so not so sure it is isolated.

Message from Marty Daniel:

Friends,

First and foremost, let me say that I have heard your voices. I put out a statement on Friday, supporting Senate Bill S.2135 also known as the Fix NICS Act. I have received overwhelming feedback since putting out this statement, which has brought to my attention that there are significant and justified concerns regarding this bill. I can no longer in good conscience put my support behind S.2135.

I released the original statement because I believed it was the best option available at this time to hold back the continued attacks on the Second Amendment and the erosion of our rights. I was wrong.

Let me be very clear:

• My life’s work is to protect an individual’s right to keep and bear arms by holding our lawmakers accountable to the Second Amendment.

• I believe that all firearms laws that limit the rights of law abiding citizens are unconstitutional.

• I will never support any legislation which infringes on any individuals rights, and could potentially subvert due process.

• Myself, my Family, and Daniel Defense love and serve our Veterans every day. I would never support a legislative measure which would strip them of their rights based on their history of service and sacrifice.

Thank you to everyone who reached out and voiced your concerns. You are a motivated and passionate group of people which I am proud to call my peers, my friends, and my family. We are all united in one fight – the fight to support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America. I will never turn my back on you. I stand with you and I am ready to continue to fight for our rights.

-Marty

Daniel Defense - Friend or Foe

Stopped by the Daniel Defense booth at the NRA convention this morning. Was surprised that they would not let my 19 yr old son register for the drawing for a rifle... said that he had to be 21. So he's old enough to purchase their product, but too young for their marketing?
