Re: What happened to NRA Carry Guard training?

When Carry Guard was first introduced a few years ago, they had a rather extensive 2 or 3 day training class available. They weren't frequent, and were spread out across the nation, so finding one in the DFW area, or even Texas, was a slow process. Now, I can't even find a list of classes on their ...

Re: Sig P365 XL???

For smaller carry guns, the Walther PPS, Sig Sauer 365 XL, and the Springfield Hellcat all have a version that ships w/ optic already mounted. Medium to larger gun sizes. The new Sig Sauer 320 RXP and the RX ship with optics mounted. I'm not sure who else ships w/ optic but I'm sure it will be a gro...

Re: RDS v. Iron Sights: Not just for old blind guys

So how many of you guys carry, or plan to carry with a RDS mounted on your carry-gun? The points made about putting the time in to get acclimated certainly seem valid, as far as range use. In a defensive shooting scenario, can you get a shot on target as quickly? ;-) I'm about a week in on daily ca...

Re: Sig P365 XL???

The flexibility of the 365 platform is really nice. I've put several XL grips on regular 365 and SAS models. It's a nice update if you prefer the 12rd mags. The smart bit is that all the new 12rd mags (and 15rd mags) come with both the 365 and XL baseplates. Another thing you can do to your regular ...

Re: RDS v. Iron Sights: Not just for old blind guys

My suggestion for those trying out pistol red dots is to give it time. I was less than thrilled with the first couple of range trips. I've decided to stick with the red dot for the next six months and I'm finally starting to turn the corner after about 700 rounds. There are some plus and minuses tha...

Re: RDS v. Iron Sights: Not just for old blind guys

The last 6 to 8 months, all the 320s I've sold to officers have been optic ready. The last week or so just about all I've done is mount the optics and tall sights on some of those same guns. It's a pretty interesting evolution. HPD's current class went to 100% red dot at the academy. For me, it's be...

"The coach gave us licks in the shower..." sounded much, much worse.

Re: TX: The mean streets of Clute

We had a coach who administered discipline in the showers so the crack from that sawed down baseball bat would echo around the locker room. I had a 'Government' class after that athletics period. Teacher wouldn't even bat an eye when I'd stand in the back of the class rather than sit down. :biggrinj...

Re: suppressor

For an existing suppressor you will need an NFA tax stamp to take possession. You can apply as an individual, a trust*, or corporation. Most eligible gun shops will do the paperwork for you. There's no registration w/ the state of Texas. The chief law enforcement officer of the county (or state) whe...

Re: Pictures of your "Brown Guns"

This one came home with me. Sig Sauer M17 Surplus. It is essentially in new, un-issued condition with no rack or inventory marks. It was a hard choice, pick one had seen action or go for best condition. Decided on condition.

Re: Church shooting in Tarrant County - White Settlement

...He had to go under a sport coat and a shirt tail both drawing upward and then bringing his gun around his body then up to a shooting position... It seems crass to discuss this when good people are dead, but the living can learn from this. That shotgun was out for a long time (about 4 seconds) wh...

Re: Church shooting in Tarrant County - White Settlement

The parishioner who was shot was trying to draw from concealment. He made a couple of mistakes; letting the gunman see him drawing and standing still. To quote Clint Smith: "If you're not shootin', you should be loadin'. If you're not loadin, you should be movin', if you're not movin', someone's go...
