Re: Length of time for the chambered round
Finally shot up my carry ammo today just for the heck of it, had the same round chambered for probably 8 or more months due to lack of time to shoot, and when I do the 380 is way down the list of what I want to shoot. The rounds themselves have been carried for 3 years, sometimes in the primary mag sometimes in the backup probably, when I target shoot I unload the HPs and reload with FMJ then just reload the mags when I'm done. For a couple years I couldn't find my carry ammo anywhere. Even after 3 years guess what they all functioned fine, about a 1 foot group dominant hand only, point shooting, just above waist high at 4-5 yards.

Re: Length of time for the chambered round
I don't carry my 1911 so it stays in the safe usually on an empty chamber. The 2 that I drop the slide onto a round are a LCP and XDm 40, if you know of either of them having an inherent flaw like that I would be glad to know now before I break something.jimd1981 wrote:Just an FYI:Medley86 wrote:If I'm re-chambering the same round that I pulled before I usually lock the slide back, drop the round in the pipe then release the slide. Don't make a habit of doing this with a 1911, the "internal" extractor is not designed to "snap" over the rim of the cartridge, but to "slide" and lock into it as the case is pushed up from the magazine. You can break the extractor.
Custom 1911s with "external" extractors do not have this issue. Now, back to your regularly scheduled posting
