The shooting stopped at 2:27 p.m. when the gunman ditched his weapon and ran out with other students, blending into the crowd.

The Herald reports that "Five seconds later, Peterson radioed for officers to 'stay at least 500 feet away at this point.' A dispatcher repeated, 'Stay away from 12 and 1300 building.'"
But blame the NRA.

Re: FL: Active shooter at high school in South Florida

Can this get any worse?

We were asking to go in. Asking the scene commander to go in. Why are we all standing around? Why are we not having patients to treat? Why are we not going into the building and retrieving these kids? The response every time was law enforcement did not clear the scene and would not allow medical personnel in.
"Broward County sheriff's deputies were supposedly told not to enter Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School unless they had body cameras on, which they did not have," reported The Daily Wire. "Ingraham also revealed that police 'lost radio transmissions' during the shooting, which also happened at the mass shooting at Fort Lauderdale airport shooting last year, which is also in Broward County."

Andrew Pollack, the father of Meadow Pollack who was killed during the Parkland, Fla., high school shooting, ripped into the media for its fixation on gun control rather than discussing policies that specifically address school safety.

"It's not going to be fixed because I just heard what you said, what you are focusing on, polarizing this event, the murder of these kids. You're talking about gun control," Pollack told Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday."

National Review has it right here: https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/02/ ... oper-wray/
Not sure if Wray specifically should be fired, but several people should be. This is wholly unacceptable, and a pattern that has repeated with several other murderers in the past.

Re: FL: Active shooter at high school in South Florida

This article really hit home for me. It's up to each and every one of us to take the safety of ourselves, our loved ones, and our fellow men and women seriously. And I don't just mean 'us' as in Pro2A people alone, I mean 'us' as in Americans and human beings.

I sincerely hope that if I were put in this type of situation, I would have the reaction of Aaron Feis, Peter Wang, Scott Beigel, Melissa Falkowski and the other men and women who sheltered others and assisted others escaping the situation.

We need to remember the men and women who responded to tragedy with a level head and helped people escape and survive. We need to remember the first responders who ran into the school not knowing what was around the corner.

Re: FL: Active shooter at high school in South Florida

The former student suspected of opening fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland may been identified a potential threat to fellow students in the past, according to one teacher.

The 19-year-old ex-student, who has been detained by Broward police, has not been publicly identified as a suspect. But a law-enforcement source identified him as Nicolas Cruz.

“We were told last year that he wasn’t allowed on campus with a backpack on him,” said math teacher Jim Gard, who said Cruz had been in his class last year. “There were problems with him last year threatening students, and I guess he was asked to leave campus.”
