A little trick I learned to safely remove the mainspring housing pin is to use an automatic center punch. Place the gun on it's side with the cupped side of the retaining pin up, take an automatic center punch and press the pin out. The force of the spring will drive the pin about halfway out of the frame. You then can easily pull the pin from the gun and control where it and the MSH go. I use an El Cheapo Harbor Freight Tools punch, cost is less than five bucks. No, it does not mar the pin.
