There would have been difficulty targeting the murderer through the windows due to the lights being out, but its difficult to believe that shotgun/rifle fire would not have opened the door.
Shotgun breaching is definitely a technique, but I've never done it on metal doors with metal door jams ((one statement somewhere in the news stated there was a metal door jam; I'm assuming that meant the door frame was metal, & not that there was some metal bar or locking device on the door)). ((Caveat: we breached metal laminate doors that were foam filled, so I'm not saying there isn't a technique for ballistic breaching of metal doors, just that I don't recall ever doing it with a door hung on a metal door frame, like found in commercial settings. We used explosive breaching for all kinds of doors, & all I remember doing with metal door frames was explosive breaching)).

From what we were taught on ballistic breaching, rifles & pistols were absolutely a no-go due to the injury hazard of high velocity solid projectiles over penetrating into the room (non-combatants/hostages in room) or ricochet hazard to assaulters in hallway/outside of room. Now, if there was a clear PID of the shooter thru a door window, I would have placed several rounds of 5.56 thru the window or door in hopes rounds would penetrate & at least wound the nutjob.

Regarding the training conducted in March, I'm wondering if the training included live-fire, or just dry-fire or force-on-force. And if live fire training, did it include mechanical, ballistic, or explosive breaching techniques. I am willing to bet the BORTAC guys are proficient at breaching, but a small town PD, even with a small town SWAT TM, wouldn't likely have proficiency with breaching.

Thoughts?
If it's done in a way that doesn't dissuade kids from getting mental health help, it could be a good idea.
I know lots of kids that benefited from talking with a counselor. Would not be ok for that to be disqualifying for 2A.
Some, maybe. But a kid who had a picture taken with a bag full of dead cats needs locked up in an insane asylum.
Not going to disagree with you there.
Totally agree that this piece of dung should have been locked up in a mental hospital. It seems that Texas already has laws that would have facilitated that, but nobody reported the 'bag of cats' or him making statements such as "all girls deserve to be raped", or threatening to kill people. He even said he was planning to attack a school, but others 'thought he was joking'.

Well, to more accurately state it, nobody reported it to anyone who did anything about it; other kids flagging/reporting it to the social media platform Yubo doesn't really count, especially if nobody tells an adult, or nobody reports it to the authorities AND THEN the authorities use the legal process to get threats put away.

Re: Uvalde School shooting

The Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Center at Texas State University in San Marcos posted the below statement to their LinkedIn. For context, the curriculum for the DPS' School Safety Course is based on what ALERRT created as the national standard for active shooter response.
In the wake of the tragedy in Uvalde, we have had many people reach out and ask if our training or response protocols have changed. They have not.

We still teach that the priority of work for responders is to Stop the Killing first and Stop the Dying second.

If an arriving officer hears gunfire or sees other signs that there is active violence, they should move quickly to distract, isolate, and neutralize the attacker. If the attacker is not accessible through the primary access point, the officers should seek alternatives. These could include utilizing other access points (such as going through adjoining rooms), engaging the suspect through a window, or even breaking through drywall or other construction materials.

Even if the gunfire stops, responders must consider whether or not there are injured people in the room. These people probably need immediate medical assistance if they are going to survive. If the responders have information which indicates that there are injured people in a room, they need to gain access to that room as quickly as possible in order to stop the dying. The injured should be quickly stabilized and rapidly transported to definitive care.

We still teach the same priority of life - Innocent/injured people, responders, suspects. This prioritization does not mean that responders are expected to throw their lives away, but it does mean they are expected to assume risk to save lives. It does not mean that officers have to breach a door while taking fire through the door if there are other options, but it does mean that we expect them to continue trying to address the problems they are facing until the killing and dying have been stopped.

Also remember, fire personnel are probably on scene, and they have excellent breaching equipment and can access Knox boxes to get keys. Law enforcement should also integrate with fire and EMS as quickly as possible in order to save as many lives as possible.

The tragedy in Uvalde reinforces the need for constant training, the correct equipment, and competent leadership.

The families of Nevaeh Bravo, Jacklyn Jaylen Cazares, Makenna Lee Elrod, Jose Flores, Elianhna Garcia, Irma Garcia, Uziyah Garcia, Amerie Jo Garza, Xavier Lopez, Jayce Carmelo Luevanos, Tess Mata, Maranda Mathis, Eva Mireles, Alithia Ramirez, Annabell Rodriquez, Maite Rodriguez, Alexandria Aniyah Rubio, Layla Salazar, Jailah Nicole Silguero, Eliahana Cruz Torres, and Rojelio Torres deserve our best.

May 2018 two middle schoolers arrested for plotting Columbine type attack on their classmates in Uvalde, Texas. They would be 18 now.

Would they now be legally allowed to buy guns? Is it the same guy?

10,000 people in Uvalde, what are the odds there are two sets of kids wanting to murder classmates in a Columbine type massacre.

Relook the link above. The story has been walked back by Rep Gonzalez; as it turns out he was spouting garbage from his fourth point of contact without verification of the facts. The filth that did this shooting was not one of the filth arrested in 2018 for plotting an attack on the Uvalde school.

It's disheartening when politicians from either side spout crap. The amount of mis-information & dis-information used by domestic politicians & activist groups is sickening.

EOTECH XPS prices are $609-725 on Eotech's website.

DDM4®V7® lists at $1,870.00 on Daniel Defense's website

He also is said to have had body armor.
Anecdotally, street prices for most desirable ARs seem to be higher than MSRP.
The initial media reports were inaccurate; he did not have body armor. He was wearing a tactical vest, but did not have ballistic plates.

Agreed. And, would be nice if the mods would take him up on the offer to delete his original post, plus all other posts bantering back & forth on something not germane to this event.

:iagree: The school should have been locked and there should have been an armed resource officer on site.
I agree with the "should have been locked" as a standard practice for schools, and more so if local law enforcement was already tracking a report of this thug shooting his grandmother nearby.

I take anything on the internet with a grain of salt, but this Wikipedia page has plenty of citations linking to the primary sources. Some parts are obviously slanted talking points, but overall gives a summation of this tragedy.
