The recoil is a pussycat compaired to any other 2&3/4" buck I've tried. At 21 feet, (my maximum realistic HD scenerio,) they had about an 7 to 8 inch spread. With the Opso adapter, they cycled perfectly.

Let me just say that I'm a big guy, and at the range I don't find regular 2&3/4" shells unmanageable. However, thinking about the possibility of having to use it in the middle of the night, indoors, without ear pro, and probably not with the ideal stance/grip; I think the mini shells are the ticket.
My problem is finding the mini-shells. They don't seem to be in stock anywhere. I already have the adaptor but haven't installed it because I have no ammo that will work.

Red or green laser? How easy is it to see and a aquire your target? Are the paddles easy to operate in that position, or, are you thinking of adding a pressure switch?
Mine is red. It shows up very clearly even when I have the light activated (there is a switch to choose light only, laser only, or light and laser). The paddle is super easy to operate, since it is just above my trigger finger when I pick up the gun.

With the light / laser, mine is accurate out to 25 yards. Also, the scabbard that was recommended upthread is perfect for vehicle carry since it just barely covers the full weapon, without adding any unnecessary length. Mine just fits in the passenger wheel well of my BMW if I move the seat back slightly more than normal. From there it is fully concealed, and still an easy reach while I am driving.
Nice! I really need to set mine up for truck carry that was the whole reason in me buying! If you don't mind me asking where did you order your scabbard from?
This is the scabbard I ordered. https://www.sportsmansguide.com/product ... ?a=1699245 It works perfectly for me. Just (barely) covers the full length of the Shockwave, and fits perfectly in the passengers seat well of my car as long as I have the seat all the way back (I hardly ever have passengers in the back seats, so that isn't an issue for me).

What mount did you use for your light? I used a GG&G mount and I am not really happy about the position or the light.

Well the shell holder is just slightly wider than a 12 gauge shell, so I think it should work just fine. Thanks!

How wide is the mouth of that scabbard? I have a side saddle shell holder on the Shockwave that I am keeping, and I think it will extend a few inches into the scabbard.

I can see the little old lady man with a gun calls now. I carry my shotguns in a case whenever I travel. This firearm may be illegal to carry in a case. More problems.

From my understanding, and I'm far from a layer, or legal scholar, this type of firearm, was specifically, designated to be legal to carry, due to its designation from the ATFE. I don't know that it was specifically, considered "illegal", but there was a question, prior to the bill during the last session. JMHO
Mossberg site says if concealed it is an A.O.W.
https://www.mossberg.com/wp-content/upl ... ACTION.pdf
So how does one transport this without scaring the population at large? Even putting it in a back pack would appear to make it an A.O.W. as far as ATF is concerned. We are going to need some method to carry this. I am sticking to my new Mossberg Maverick 88 but I am curious about all firearms.
Well it's shipped in a box in a delivery truck, then carried in a box by the delivery person into a retail store / FFL dealer. The dealer then transports that same weapon, in a box to the counter and either unboxes it for display or further transports this weapon, in a box into the store room. So carrying it in a box is probably OK. Either that, or there are a ton of felons across the country masquerading as FFL dealers and UPS/Fed Ex delivery drivers.

Not sure what is so special about a box as opposed to a backpack or gun case. But if folks are really worried about it, I suppose they could refuse to let the FFL dealer put it back in a box at the store, then drive home holding it out the window of their car since it might not be fully visible, and therefore concealed near you, if it is anywhere in your car. Also make sure you don't put it in a gun case in your home, unless it is a cabinet with a glass door that is clearly visible from outside your house. Doing anything else risks THE RIDE!!!!!!!

Re: Mossberg Shockwave

I got one from a Houston gun shop last week. When I picked it up, I also got some interesting legal advice, which basically boiled down to "it's legal to have at home and at a range now, but you can't carry it in your car until September 1." I'm pretty sure that the person at the shop who told me this is not a lawyer, so I will take that advice for what it's worth.

I have not shot it yet, but I did see on another forum where a guy managed to get his hand cut up by the safety, so he filed down the rough edges on the back of the switch. I may try doing that, as well as adding a laser / light combo. Just need to get a top rail, and will then mount it upside down.

This is not a bad idea for firearm laws in general, along with a number of other things (carrying cash on domestic flights, etc). And yes, it is VERY sad that we need to educate law enforcement agents on the law.

The problem usually comes from the fact, that their is almost no follow up training for a lot of departments, after the academy. They are required to take a certain number of hours of continuing education per year, but it may not be regarding new/amended laws. There was a big push after the CHL law was passed to educate LEO, and again when Open Carry passed, but for some of these changes, they only have what they learned in the academy to fall back on. and after several years, many things can change. I suspect, that since this was added as an amendment, that their won't be widespread training, or instruction on this. Especially, in the smaller departments. I would suggest, that if confronted by a LEO, ask (politely) to speak with a supervisor, because you have a copy, of the amended statute, and the ATFE ruling. If there are no other extenuating circumstances, most LEO will not mind being educated, as long as the educator, is polite and professional. It's never good to become confrontational, during traffic stops, or any time firearms are involved. Since the majority of members here are usually very law abiding, and non-confrontational, anyway, I know I am preaching to the choir. and the odds of this even being an issue, are very small.
I completely agree with you. I firmly believe that it is best to be calm, respectful, cordial, and deferential when dealing with LEO's. That is something I recently discussed with my daughter since she just started driving a year ago.

When laws change, and officers do not encounter the situation frequently (such as with CC and OC), it is understandable that a specific LEO officer might not be aware of the change, and someone might end up "taking a ride" due to this lake of awareness on the part of the officer. Hopefully, when that happens, the LEO and their agency are overly apologetic in trying to make up for the harm they mistakenly caused.

But in cases where the law might just be unclear, such as this situation, I would hope that a LEO would start with the fact that (almost) everything is legal until or unless a law is passed making it illegal. Following that logic, if the LEO does not know of a law that definitely makes something illegal, they should assume it is legal. Maybe escalate to a supervisor if unsure, but definitely not make an arrest unless they have a high level of certainty that the thing is actually illegal. It just seems to me that the presumption is backwards in a lot of cases, where officers err on the side of illegality.

So yes, be courteous, respectful, calm, and deferential when you encounter a LEO. Yes, it is a good idea to carry documentation of the actual laws covering any behavior that could possibly be mistaken as being illegal. And yes, it is sad that you need to do this (carry the documentation).

Re: Mossberg Shockwave

Jusme wrote: All I know, is that if a case came to trial, and the prosecution laid out three Mossberg "firearms" one with a 28" barrel, one with a 18.5" barrel and pistol grip, and the Shockwave, and demonstrated how they all loaded the same way, had identical actions, fired the exact same ammo (either shotshells or shotgun slugs) and asked 12 jury members to render their verdict, on whether or not, under Texas law, the Shockwave was a prohibited weapon, I don't think there would be many who disagreed with the fact that it is a short barreled firearm, not requiring an NFA stamp, and not of the correct barrel length, and overall length, and therefore illegal under Texas law.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that the whole, barrel length, shotgun definition, BATFE regulations, NFA stamp, issues are just more government interference than is necessary. I wish you luck on getting an opinion, but I wouldn't count on many changes very soon. JMHO
Most of my family members think my 18.5 inch shotgun with a pistol grip is illegal. So if there were 12 random people on this jury and no one gave them any legal definition of a short barreled shotgun, then most of them would likely say that both the 18.5 inch gun and the Shockwave were illegal.

But in the real world, the jury would be told that there is no definition of a shotgun in Texas law, the federal definition includes a weapon that is designed to be fired from the shoulder, and that the relevant federal agency has determined that this firearm does not meet that definition. This assumes that the defense attorney actually graduated law school. In this situation, I am guessing that at least one of those 12 jurors would be adamant that this firearm is not a shotgun, short barreled or otherwise.
