But what if the anti-gunners have an agenda of their own? Has anyone given any thought to what they might try to roll back and how we might counter that? I was speaking to a friend who predicted this will be a rollback session for gun rights.
I was told by a senior senate staff member that the antis (e.g. the Moms) were going to make a real hard push to replace the 06/07 signs with downloadable gunbuster signs. They have the full support of the Texas Association of Businesses, which represents over 4,000 Texas businesses. The requirement to plaster the front of your business with the big, ugly current signage is reportedly a major sore spot in the business community. Just a heads-up.
We've known about this since last session. In fact, I've been letting people know for a good while. The TAB is not in full support and it isn't a major sore spot with the business community. Andrea Bauer wants everyone to believe this, but it's not the case.

That said, it is important that we let our elected representatives know that we will not stand for any changes to TPC §30.06.

Chas.

Of course, they could just do away with the 30.06 signs and the 30.07 signs and just let LTC holders Carry! That would get rid of the ugly signs and make us happy! :anamatedbanana (show them the dancing banana too)

Re: 2017 Legislative Priorities

I agree! Focus on removing gun free zones should be #1, IF trump doesn't do it first! :smash:

Last I checked, it wasn't LTC holders (or LTC teachers) that were causing problems at schools.

OK, then a legislatively imposed remedy that the trespass charge will not stand. You ought to have notice when you book your room, not when you stagger into the motel after a long day on the road.
I would rather the statute just provide an explicit exemption under 30.06/30.07 for those staying at the hotel.
There's already an explicit exemption for 46.02 for those traveling, but I don't know if it has been tested in court whether or not it applies to license holders since license holders are already exempt from 46.02 or if a license holder could be considered carrying under the 46.02 traveling exemption.

But yes I think that would be a step forward. Honestly I want to see full decriminalization of 30.06 just like if you have a "no shirt, no shoes, no service" sign, you still need to ask a patron to leave before they are considered trespassing. I don't know how likely that will be given Texas' view on property rights, but the business would still have the right to ask anyone to leave, including license holders.
