Okay, so I am the proud owner of a S&W Sport II! Big and HUGE kudos to Nagel's guns here in San Antonio! They didn't shoot me..lol.
Fast Eddie there hooked me up, and never once showed any sign of being annoyed. And they don't work on commission either.
I bought 100 rounds of Geco 55 grain FMJ ammo for $21.95 a box. More to follow for sure. The rifle was bought with embezzled(from my wife and I's budget) and gift money. Ammo is a consumable like gas and groceries..lol. So that came out of the budget. I could only justify 100 rounds for the time being. It's bad enough I just dropped around $50 on 9mm ammo earlier this week. And bought a gun belt. But hey...belts are CLOTHING!..lol.
A tip for you single guys, buy your toys before you even consider getting married! Wives cost. And wives mean kids. And kids really cost! They're great though, I wouldn't change a thing. I've shot tons of "virtual" ammo in video games with the kids.

Come on 5:00pm, it's Friday! :hurry:

Congratulations! I believe you will enjoy the Sport II. You're gonna need more ammo, lots more ammo!

Just about every locally owned firearms store I've been into the workers are carrying.

Don't recall every seeing armed associates at Academy, Cabelas, Bass Pro, etc.

If I buy a pink one, does that mean I'm not addicted?..lol.
cyphertext wrote:...Yep, the one TAM posted is the Sport Optics Ready Carbine... They also have a Sport with Magpul furniture from the factory....
Would it be more economical to get the Magpul furniture on the Sport from the factory? Seems like it would be. But, not necessarily.
The Sport II I have came with flip up rear Magpul and front A2 sight on barrel. The only thing I’ve done for upgrades is a new hand guard and better optic. The optic cost me more than the rifle! Add slings, quantities of magazines and thousands of rounds of ammo the rifle price fades to the background!

Another ad just went up with (you guessed it) a Tennessee Arms lower! It's $500 asking price.

I think an S&W Sport is looking better and better. Especially for someone like me who's not very educated on home-builds.
I've been extremely happy with my M&P Sport II, which is my only AR so far. And I paid $600 for it about 18 months ago.

I was pretty stoked about having a $500 AR for the weekend. But the fit and finish is questionable. Plus, it is made of low end parts.
My wife would thank you!..lol.

It may be an okay AR. And the polymer might work out well. There's just so many chances taken though. I'd rather not pay sales tax on something new. So my options are to build my own or buy used.

I'm sitting here looking at $500. But I've got no AR!
Still, the wife doesn't have a clue that I have it. :anamatedbanana

Hey, I appreciate all the (dream crushing) advice. But good advice!
Any suggestions on where to go at this point?
Thanks.
Check your local gun stores for new/used/consignment, similarly priced AR's. Show them the cash (assuming you have $500 cash) and ask to make a deal. Your cash is worth 2-4% to them instead of you using a credit card they have to pay fees on.

Re: Does This AR Custom Build Look Okay?

SQLGeek wrote:For that price I'd rather buy an S&W or a Ruger. They haven't been perfect but I'd trust either of those over PSA's spotty reputation. Of course that doesn't include an optic but Ruger AR-556s are running pretty cheap these days.
:iagree:
S&W M&P 15 Sport II $470 at Grabagun.com

Ruger AR-556 $499 at Grabagun.com
