TheFriscoKid wrote:Here's the thing - the changes coming are going to happen regardless of what we debate and divide upon.

I've spent $3000 on G&A since Valentine's day in anticipation of those changes.

One thing I find astonishing within this thread is those that bury their heads in the sand and label others as trolls or liberal gun grabbers instead of staying focused on the topic or confronting ideas, opinions and facts they don't agree with.

Many of these same people are the brave 'fight to their death cold dead hands' advocates that become cowards at the mere whisper of an idea that confronts their current perceptions.

This forum would benefit - we would benefit - from having more liberals and democrats and anti-gun people come in and have respectful considerate discussions not with the expectation that either side will change the others mind but from the benefit of understanding the other side and then being able to create strategies and compromises that allow us to keep our guns and allow the majority of Americans to feel safe again.

I believe a good guy with a gun is the only thing stops a bad guy with a gun. But that doesn't address the root cause. What we need to do is try to prevent the number of bad guys with guns before they even have a chance to kill 10 or 20 or 50.
Provide us an example of one place on the internet you can have respectful considerate discussions with anti-gun people? They aren't capable of it.
If you want that, go find a forum that's what you're looking for instead of trying to change this one to match your agenda.

TheFriscoKid wrote:What do you think it means that 90% of Republicans think the mentally ill shouldn't have weapons?

This is my singular argument. We need to get behind this before a whole bunch of junk is going to be forced upon us.
I agree 100%. Those who have been determined to be mentally incompetent and dangerous by health professionals should not be allow to purchase or be in possession of firearms, as well as many other things that could possibly cause death or harm to others in their hands. I can fully support legislation that recognizes the root causes of the problem is not the availability of guns, but the breakdown of society which leaves mentally ill people to walk free and destroy lives.

Just keep in mind, it was the progressive socialists who insisted that the mentally ill be treated less like the mentally ill and more like healthy people. Keep in mind, it was the progressive socialists who have championed the drugging of children who don't color within the lines of their acceptable forms of behavior. Keep in mind it was the progressive socialists who has removed God, discipline and fundamentally sound education from our schools.
We can't continue to go along with their plans.
Or we can give up our guns and hope that these socialists won't be like the ones in Germany, Russia, China, etc.

TheFriscoKid wrote:
montgomery wrote:The question you have to ask yourself is are you willing to fight and die to keep your firearms?
No. Neither fight nor die. I am also not willing to kill the parents, spouses, brothers, and children of others to keep my guns which would also be a reality or possibility should 'confiscation' occur.

Most everyone here is pro LEO - 'cold dead hands' means those are the same guys that will be coming to do their jobs when and if the order is ever given. I'm sure they won't enjoy it either even if it goes peacefully and well. But if the tide shifts and the laws change, then that is the will of the people and in a democracy that's the way the ball bounces.

I wouldn't be the first to turn mine in. I'd be willing to wait, I'd be willing to hide and bury my guns and ammo until the day I absolutely need them or until things change. I'd be willing to lie to authorities.

To a lot of people this may make me a 'bad' patriot. But like most people I am concerned about protecting my wife and child first and foremost and I can't do that very well if I am going to engage the govt. in a shootout. I am certain I will lose that fight 100% of the time.

Gun rights are important but they come second to my family, my life and my ability to protect and provide. Protect doesn't always mean 'stand yer ground n fight' it often means avoid the fight and get the heck out of Dodge.

I've had the fortune of spending many years outside of America and can think of 100s of places where we could live safely and have natural deaths.

With all of that written, I don't think it will ever come to that. What might happen is stronger checks, stronger 'check ups', higher requirements for storage, safety and training and absolute restrictions and better systems and safeguards on the mentally ill (dangerous).

I am not liberal in this regards and discussing 'mental health' - this is what a high majority of NRA Conservatives (79%) and Republicans (90%) believe are needed.
If guns are banned, you'd bury yours until the day they are "needed"? What's the "need" going to be that would require you to dig them up and use them?
You're going to lie to the government about your firearms? Have you missed the stories about people sent to prison for "false statements" to the FBI? How you going to take care of your wife and child in jail/prison?
You know 100's of places in the world where you can live freer and safer than the United States? Name 5 and back up your answers with facts and sources.
Finally, you like millions of others, are so ill informed that you believe we live in a democracy. We do not, we live in a Constitutional Republic, protected from the tyranny of the majority.

Your question is incorrect. The correct question is: "Are you willing to fight and die to keep your freedom?"

It seems among the gun owning community here in Texas, there are many who were like the colonists who didn't think taking on King George was worth it.

Re: I want to keep my guns.

Remember, the Second Amendment does not grant you the right to keep and bear arms, it acknowledges your God given right to protect yourself and your family by having firearms; and restricts the government from infringing upon that right.

All laws past and present are infringements that have come about as compromises with those who want to take away your rights.

A common phrase heard is “the Second protects the First.” The accurate phrase is “the Second protects the rest of the Bill of Rights, and the whole of the Constitution.”

The progressive socialists and their GOP globalist allies love when you agree to compromise away your freedoms.

An idea like this also occurred to me but I haven't yet found any statistics on the avg age of mass shooters.

I also should try to find stats on avg age of all shooters.

I don't think age alone can be a gating factor. I know that a younger version of me was more prone to anger and emotional decisions. I trust myself much more now to stay level headed.
25 is the age that schizophrenia in men is usually already diagnosed. The 18 and 21 is already on the books in Florida, so that's really not a change. I figure there is a lot of cool weapons for a 18-25 year old still to have fun with. Yes a veteran exception, however, honorable only, and the military needs to be honest about why there was a separation. Sorry 18 to 25 your being sacrificed to the Dems to get national chl reciprocity. But 21 to 25 will have the freedom to carry in any state. Worth the wait.

I find that bump stocks are wasteful of ammunition. I'm figuring when I might really need an AR15, I will not want to waste ammunition. Bump stock buy back, no longer available to sell, no confiscation.

We so firmly believe that gun free zones are so dangerous, that everyone is concerned that NFL fans would be at risk if they were kept as gun free. Interesting that is the opposite view of I suspect most Americans. I put that in there as a joke of course we would want to protect NFL fans from mass shootings, even if they do support players who disrespect America.

I think this could get enough Democratic votes to pass. There needs to be just a little on our side to get nationwide reciprocity. We only have a little time till the next election. Needs to happen now. We only have a small window. Can you imagine Nancy Pelosi voting against a ban on bump stocks.
I don't understand why you are willing to compromise with those whose stated goals are to do away with the 2nd Amendment. You want national reciprocity so bad you'll give up other law abiding citizens' rights to keep and bear arms?
I want to keep the right to buy an AR 15. If we don't write the bill, the Dems will, possibly as soon as next January, if not sooner.

They did in 2015, it banned almost any interesting gun you might want to own. I actually used the list as a wish list so to speak, it was so complete.

Had that bill gotten enough Republicans to get on board, Obama would have signed it and the Florida school shooter would not have been able to kill 17 last week.

So in reality, the Democratic bill would have saved those children. He would not have had the chance to kill as many with a bolt action rifle.

Yeah, the FBI not being stupid would have saved them too. But the AR15 ban would have saved those children. No doubt in my mind.

My social media is a blaze with ban the AR15, end the second amendment, kick the GOP out in November.

The GOP needs to get a head of this with their own bill. Now.
So you want the GOP out in front banning firearms? With friends like those, we don't need the enemy on the left. :banghead:

To paraphrase that great philosopher Jean-Luc Picard: "We've made too many compromises already, too many retreats. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far and no further!"

Every concession you make to the anti-freedom side the more excited they get about being closer to their goal of repealing the 2nd Amendment.

There’s already so many gun laws, rules and regulations that the government cannot/will not enforce. The last 20-30 years has seen “the people” vote for more and more rights to be armed and protect their families.
