Sure. R-h-o-d-e-s-i-a.
Not really. Rhodesia was Subsaharan Africa's breadbasket. Zimbabwe has routinely demonstrated an inability to feed itself. Democracy can degenerate into mob rule, and while deposing a colonial order founded upon racism and borderline slavery-in-situ is necessary, allowing populist fools to direct it ends very predictably.

When their economy begins failing, they will debase their currency in an effort to save the failed socialist enterprise and I'll put a 10 trillion rand banknote next to my $10 trillion Zimbabwe dollar banknote.

Edit: just to restate this: Mugabe didn't evict the white farmers until 2000. When he finally did, agricultural output for core staples and export crops fell between 67% (cattle) and 100% (coffee). Wheat and maize production both fell between 75 and 90%. South Africa's farmland generally occupies a more perilous position with regard to water and irrigation, and depends more heavily upon advanced agricultural and sophisticated agri-finance knowledge. They'll suffer more than Zimbabwe not only because their land for food production is worse, but also because exports and economic supluses which allow them to import food in dry years will likely implode.

The white people can escape. The black people generally do not have the means to do so and are likely to suffer terribly.

Re: South Africa: Violent farm murders

Everyone foolish enough to remain in South Africa is about to become a billionaire. Populists with no understanding of inflation are highly predictable creatures.
