I'm going to say the recoil impulse is similar to the difference between .45FMJ and .40S&W, and I'm not a huge fan of either OEM load. Against moderately insulated human beings, the mid-range (124-135 grain) loads, running 1200-1300 fps generally produce the most consistent aggression-stops, with the most hits on-target.

If you live in the upper midwest/northern states, a bit more weight and a bit more velocity may help deal with winter coats. In southern locations, lighter, faster bullets will suffice (110-120grain, 1200fps+), though the 124-135 gives a bit more "oomph!" against mid-weight barriers (auto glass, sheetrock, etc..)

I've tried the spectrum. I keep coming back to what I can apply the most of, the fastest. Big-n-slow, uber-snappy hi-vel, name-your-miracle-bullet, etc., hasn't been there yet.
