Exactly why I don't use appendix carry. I like the potential speed-of-access advantage, but I sure don't want to be arrested for carrying a gun in a sensitive area. Besides, I've never been able to sit comfortably for long periods with IWB appendix carry.

New York to pay protestors who did $350 million dollars worth of damage to NYC during the George Floyd riots $10,000 each for being arrested and then not being prosecuted for a crime by the DA. A total of $13,000,000 will be paid out.

03Lightningrocks wrote: Mon May 22, 2023 1:36 pm I have ZERO sympathy for anyone from that sphincter of America. They deserve everything they get. I hope it becomes so miserable they hate the very essence of life. THE MORONS GOT WHAT THEY VOTED FOR!!!! LET them all rot in hades.
I have sympathy for all the LEOs in NYC who want to do the right thing but basically have their hands tied. The volume of "pre-crime" work they're now tasked with has gone through the roof, while their manpower has been going down and response times to and investigation of violent crime goes up. If they make a good collar, then a waste of air like DA Alvin Bragg let's the perp walk with nothing but a sternly worded warning...if that. A lot of them have packed up and left. But that's gotta be a difficult decision for an officer who was born there, has a lot of family there, and who may be carrying on a long family tradition of NYPD officers.

Too, just like Texas, the Marxist voting cesspool is in the big cities. 43% of the whole state's population lives in New York City. I've known families in the more rural, upstate areas in New York that were conservative, religious, gun owners who absolutely never voted for Kathy Hochul or Andrew Cuomo or David Patterson. I can relate. I live in Harris County, but there's nothing I can do to get rid of Sheila Jackson Lee or help put a Republican mayor in office in Houston.

And we're still sitting with only a fairly slim Republican voting majority in Texas because the blue vote is in the large urban areas and along the border. In the 2012 presidential election, Texas overall voted 57.2% Republican. In 2016 that was 52.2%, and in 2020, 52.1%. We've slipped 5.1% in just three election cycles. The Dems want to do everything they can to that majority. The Biden Border and 6 million new undocumented aliens since January 2021 could help tip the scales (if dead people can vote, we know a ton of illegals are going to, also). If the governorship and the legislative majority slips back to Democrat, we could be in a world of hurt. A scant 60 years ago Texas was heavily blue, with only 16 counties voting Republican in the presidential race.

New York isn't the fault of all the state's voters. It's the fault of most of the state's voters.

Re: No place but New York

From the NRA-ILA today:

New York State Police Advocate: Governor’s Gun Seizure Mandate is Hindering Crime Fighting
https://www.nraila.org/articles/2023052 ... e-fighting
Proponents of so-called “red flag” laws like to claim they are a “public safety” measure. But a union representing state police investigators in New York is sounding the alarm that a mandate handed down by Gov. Katherine Hochul (D) to increase seizures of lawfully-owned guns is interfering with their other crime fighting duties. Details were provided in a [urlhttps://www.timesunion.com/state/article/state- ... -spotlight]recent article[/url] at news site TimesUnion.com.
From the Times Union article:
In 2020, judges issued protection orders against 255 people across New York. This year, in just over four months, the number of individuals subjected to emergency or temporary risk protection orders topped 2,120. And between 2020 and last November, State Police had seized 2,521 firearms under emergency protection orders — a figure that does not include seizures made by more than 150 other New York police agencies.
Tim Dymond, president of the New York State Police Investigators Association, told the Times Union:
The spike in ERPOs has created an unmanageable workload that will undoubtedly cause other criminal investigations to suffer… [Extreme risk protection orders] are important but so are murder, rape and robbery investigations. We still need to be able to investigate local burglary rings. We still need to track down child predators and drug dealers.
No kidding. Let's see... While violent crime is rampant and essentially unchecked in many parts of New York--most especially the densely populated urban centers--and law enforcement officers have been resigning or taking jobs in different states in droves, let's increase the the "pre-crime" responsibilities that the police have by a full 20 fold. Yep; increase the workload by 2,000%. And expect that to statistically reduce all that murder, rape, child predation, armed robbery, violent gangs, and organized drug dealers.

That just makes all kinds of logical sense, doesn't it? :banghead:

Re: No place but New York

In an opinion piece on Fox last night, Lawrence Jones described several criminals that Bragg had let skate and were not prosecuted. One was arrested for armed robbery (I believe the very next day) and one had had 126 previous arrests! Yep; there's no pattern of criminal behavior there; let the poor man go free to make his living.

After all, locking him up does nothing to further my political ideologies, and that's all George Soros pays me for (making a satirical comment and attributing it to Bragg).

philip964 wrote: Wed Oct 12, 2022 9:36 am More information. Still confusing. Was the point to fire the gun and get arrested? Says Glock 17 I thought the Glock switches only worked on the 18.
Somebody can correct me, but the G18 is an actual, automatic pistol, purpose-made that way by Glock. It has a selector at the rear of the slide for semi- or fully-auto fire.

The illegal, mostly Chinese-made, black-market "switches," I believe, used the the G18's original design and reverse-engineered it to make something that could be added to most standard 9mm Glocks. Pretty sure they have "models" that will work on nominal barrel-length 9mm, including the G17, G19, and G34. I don't know enough about the "switches" to say what else they're made for...i.e., other calibers and sizes. Would be a hoot if it would fit on the G26, though, and see someone try to control it while dumping a mag with no pinky extension. Even better, a G27. The .40 S&W is pretty snappy for that size pistol to start with.

Sex offender who sucker punched a man who ended up in a coma in the hospital released without bail.
Turns out this yahoo was out on something New York calls "permanent parole" after sex offense convictions and something like 10 arrests. Fox reported this afternoon that he's back in custody and the NY governor is intervening to press for an explanation as to why he was released after being arrested for this heinous, unprovoked attack. Even the NY dem governor evidently has limits about catch-and-release. Well, maybe she does...

Author Salman Rushdie stabbed on lecture stage in New York, police confirm
https://abc13.com/salman-rushdie-attack ... /12120036/
Salman Rushdie [75, born Mumbai, India] was attacked Friday as he was about to give a lecture in western New York....

Rushdie suffered an apparent stab wound to the neck, according to New York State Police, and was transported by helicopter to an area hospital....

Rushdie's book "The Satanic Verses" has been banned in Iran since 1988, as many Muslims consider it to be blasphemous. A year later, Iran's late leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini issued a fatwa, or edict, calling for Rushdie's death....

Iran's government has long since distanced itself from Khomeini's decree, but anti-Rushdie sentiment lingered. In 2012, a semi-official Iranian religious foundation raised the bounty for Rushdie from $2.8 million to $3.3 million.

NY governor's race: Attorney General Letitia James suspends campaign
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ny-gov ... s-campaign
New York Attorney General Letitia James is suspending her campaign for governor after less than two months.
Ya think she saw the writing on the wall and realized she would only be able to get about 5% of the vote? This is our ol' buddy who thinks trying to prosecute the NRA and President Trump is of a higher priority than New York's crime rate and mass exodus, or former Gov. Cuomo letting people die of COVID in nursing homes.

Update: CNN made it official today. Chris Cuomo is no longer suspended. He's fired!
:thewave :thewave :thewave
Listening to a talking head on Fox yesterday, I think he's probably got it right. It wasn't out of any sense of CNN journalistic ethics over the reporting--or non-reporting--about his big brother's gubernatorial fiasco that got Chris Cuomo axed. That got him "suspended" as a thespian show of action and concern on CNN's part. But then the accusations surfaced of like-brother-like-brother abuse of women. Odds are that CNN examined those accusations, determined there was real meat to them, and very quickly decided to fire their prime-time golden boy to create legal separation from Cuomo and the network. He was already suspended with a big splotch of ink on his resume, and they wanted as little as possible to do with any sexual assault lawsuits that were filed. It was simply CNN looking out for number one with the easy tossing of golden-boy under the bus.

Either way, I'm perfectly fine with the end result.

Would have been epic had they told him he's fired by playing a clip of Trump from "The Apprentice".
