wheelgun1958,

Excellent advice--and the .308 is probably (in most places) cheaper and more readily available than the 6.5 Creedmoor.

Thanks for your help,

Best Choice for non-semiautos in case of TEOTWAWKI

I'm not too fond of semiauto rifles, so what would be the best action type for home protection in case the world goes to hell in a handbasket? I would need something for reasonably long distances (500-600 yds) and something that would be good out to about 300 yards. I know that there are rifles that...

Bullet Loading Depth

I know that, theoretically, it may not be a good idea to seat the base of the bullet below the bottom of the case neck. But, is there any problem with seating the base of the bullet above the bottom of the case neck?

Any input appreciated,

Re: HIgh Tech South American gangs breaking into expensive homes

The reason I suggested two dogs is because I read an article written by a former professional burglar. He stated that one dog wouldn't stop him from burglarizing a home, but two would.

How about a couple of Rottweilers or Doberman Pinschers?

The Annoyed Man,

Your ideas are absolutely spot on. They should have hired you to design the rifle and cartridge.

Re: Army's XM7 Canceled?

RPBrown, What I gather from that article is that they will be issued for testing purposes. This view is reinforced by the last paragraph of the article: "As units continue to test the weapons, the Army has scheduled a cold weather test for early next year, followed by a tropics test, then a hot...

Army's XM7 Canceled?

Any truth to the rumors floating around the internet that the Army's new XM7 rifle is going to be canceled? Or is it just the insane 80k psi, barrel-burning 6.8 cartridge that's going to be canceled?

Re: Smaller 9mm CC options

I have small hands which makes it harder for me to carry anything larger than a micro 9. To make things worse, I had my right hip replaced last year, and that makes it difficult to carry IWB at the 1:00 position--the gun and holster rub on the operated area and it gets pretty painful. For the same r...

Re: The View- Joy Behar goes deer hunting with her AR-15

Unfortunately, most of the people who watch "The View" don't know anymore about guns, cartridges, and game than Behar does, so they probably believe her. Has Fox News jumped on this and called Behar out to publicly defend her ridiculous statement?

Re: Why 1000 ft lbs of energy for a deer?

Puma Guy and The Annoyed Man, And I'll bet that the .44 Magnum has a lot less than 1000 ft lbs of energy at 600 yards. And so my question still stands: is 1000 ft lbs just an arbitrary figure, an educated guess, a rule of thumb, or .....what? Or does the required amount of energy depend on a number ...

Re: Why 1000 ft lbs of energy for a deer?

I understand that 1000 ft lbs of energy is generally accepted as the minimum to put down a deer (not an elk) reliably. If this is true, why is the .44 Magnum, with 600 ft lbs or so , considered OK? Also, I've seen some reliable reports of deer being stopped by the.357 Mag at 50 yds, with less than ...

Re: Why 1000 ft lbs of energy for a deer?

puma guy, I've shot deer with a .308 Winchester, a 7mm-08 Remington, and a 30-30, most hit in the lungs, some hit in the heart, and one hit above the lungs close to the spine. Only two of them dropped where they stood: a fallow doe, hit in the lungs with the 7mm-08 (in and out shot at about 75 yds) ...
