I already own a Henry Octagon Frontier .22, and it’s a fine little rifle; so,I’ve no doubt that the .30-30 is too. But I just prefer the look of a blued receiver. I’ve already asked Henry if they plan to come out with a variant like that. I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s asked. They told me that if enough people ask for it, they’ll offer one because it won’t make sense not to. Then maybe I’ll pick one up and sell my336BL.... or not. I have multiple ARs, so,why not multiple .30-30 lever actions?txhighlander wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 6:43 pm I have a friend that has the brass receiver and has been hunting for years without scaring any game away. They shoot very well and are very smooth.

The have the side loading gate, but also retain the removable magazine tube: https://www.henryusa.com/rifles/side-gate-lever-action/OldCannon wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 5:07 pmSide loading Henry?! NOW you have my attention! (Their whole tube-loading contraption was a non-starter for me)The Annoyed Man wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 4:32 pm But I really like Henry's quality right out of the box, and now that they’re offering models with a side-loading gate.....
I'm waiting for them to come out with a blued-receiver version. I'm not much on the shiny brass look. I guess it's attractive, but it is not very utilitarian. I think that reflections from the shiny brass finish could alert game to your presence. Hence my preference for a blued version. But, they are available in .30-30 Win, .38-55 Win, and .35 Rem - all of which are useful calibers, even if the .38-55 isn't as easy to find as the .30-30 and .35 Rem.

Re: WTS: “JM” stamped Marlin 1895G .45-70 Guide Gun
My 2016-manufactured 336BL .30-30 was a hot mess from a QC perspective. It functioned well, and shot accurately, but it required a bunch of work to bring it even close to the quality of the JM stamped 1895; and even then, it’s just a tick not as nice.....particularly in the choice of wood and its fit and finish. Maybe they have improved in the past 3 years. I might be willing to buy another one, but experience tells me to inspect it closely with a gimlet eye before I buy. I like the 336BL now that it’s properly set up. But I really like Henry's quality right out of the box, and now that they’re offering models with a side-loading gate.....OldCannon wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2019 11:39 pm Bummer you're cranky about the "Remlin" 30-30s. The new ones are SIGNIFICANTLY improved, and I would dare say they're equal in quality to the old JM rifles (Heresy, I know!). I'm probably going to be listing an unfired 336BL soon. I really want to keep it, but I just don't need an assortment of lever rifles in different calibers, and the 45-70 doesn't bother me much to shoot, not even the hot loads (but, boy, those things make quite a boom/shoulder thump!).

Re: WTS: “JM” stamped Marlin 1895G .45-70 Guide Gun
Thanks for the offer, but I’m going to pass. I’ve owned one before, and I currently have a SCAR 17S, so I don’t really need another semiauto .308. But thanks again for the offer.

Re: WTS: “JM” stamped Marlin 1895G .45-70 Guide Gun
Those sound like nice guns, but I actually have a planned use for the money, so I can’t trade. Thank you for asking though.
