Supermarket chains will not go into neighborhoods that have a large number of dollar stores because a lot of what the $ stores do sell are basics that brings people into the supermarket but the $ stores are a little cheaper. Milk, cereal, eggs, etc. Earnings for supermarkets in such neighborhoods are lower, sometimes much lower, than ones in similar neighborhoods lacking $ stores.
