Fortunately I put some anti-fog stuff on my eye pro but what I needed were windshield wipers. The Sept 11th class shot during a drizzle. I also brought my rain gear but 1/2 of our 30+ person group had to use DPS white garbage bags for raingear  . I guess it was the rain, but everyone had a wor...

Born and raised in Baytown. Sterling class of 1979. Then left for A&M. Half of the family still lives in town . My partner and I operated the CHL classes (TCWA and handgunclasses.com) and indoor range in the old Citizens bank building for 12 years before the building was condemned in May of this...

I use Rock River Arms lowers. I have had great success with them.
Plus they are easy to do business with.
Colts and Bushmasters are also tops in my book.

The problems usually arise from improper assembly of the barrel, upper, gas system rather than the lower.

If you want a 1911 that will seriously hold up, try : http://www.nighthawkcustom.com/ or http://www.wilsoncombat.com/ In the end, these guns will still be shooting when the others fail. There is a quality difference and they are worth the cost. For someone on a lesser budget, I would say Springfield...

Let’s see……Students…. Have I ever tossed anyone? Not really. I have had a few “ineligibles that left at the first break. Way back in the Fall of 1995 , I had about 16 students and the one sitting closest to me was very nervous. We were about to finish the first hour and take the old 10 ...

Golly gosh , where to begin! Let me try to swerve back on topic. Hey GigAg! I really hate net forums like this as a way to discuss these issues because it's a relatively slow medium to converse in. And since all are CHL's and have a signed, sworn Knowledge Of Laws affadavit on file with DPS  ,...

I had two students tell me that they received their packets 9 and 12 days after paying online. I think the holdup has been the new white books and the revamp of the notary forms.
The last batch of packets that were sent to me with certificates were missing one of the notary forms

I had a renewal student tell me Saturday at the Pasadena Gun show that he waited 68 days for his renewal license to be issued.
And no delays or problems with the paperwork or prints.
No explanation from DPS.
I suspect a funding problem within the department.

I would recommend getting a flattop with the BUIS and some type of red dot. The best bang for the buck would be an Eotech or Aimpoint in a detachable mount for the flattop. My experience has been that less experienced shooters find it more fun shooting with red dots than with iron sights. Of course,...

Re: Second Strike Capability, serve any purpose?

Thoughts on Second Strike? I don't think it hurts to have it, but I don't see it ever being used (or not the way I was trained). I agree, I don't think it hurts to have. Under duress, folks tend to pull the trigger again if the round Fails To Fire anyway. This is not just my experience but that of ...

Several employees of the Ch. 11 parent company in Houston have CHL's and are regular vistors to the HGCA gun shows.
I have made their acquaintance on several times.
They are fairly normal folks. Some of the abc affiliate employees are not as open-minded. : )

I saw it and looked at it for a while at the SHOT.
It's sturdy little (actually not-so-little handgun).
I thought it was well made and asked" why ?".

The similarity with a Glock 19 or Kahr came to mind.

I love Wilson 1911's but their polymer frame guns don't do much for me.
