I'm a veteran so HB16 doesn't impact me but I suspect a number of people who are up for renewal OR are doing the initial, are waiting until Sept 1. I hope you can get it within 60 days if apply after Sept 1.

BTW, DPS website shows all my requirements were complete. Hope to see plastic soon.
Just curious, did you have to resubmit any veteran info? I just renewed my DL on line and it already knew I was a disabled veteran.

SECTION 6. Section 411.195, Government Code, is amended to read as follows:
Sec. 411.195. REDUCTION OF CERTAIN FEES FOR SENIOR CITIZENS. Notwithstanding any other provision of this subchapter, if an applicant for the license is 60 years of age or older, the department shall reduce by:
(1) 50 percent any fee required for the issuance of a duplicate or modified license under this subchapter; and
(2) $5 any fee required for the issuance of a renewed license under this subchapter [if the applicant for the license is 60 years of age or older].

$35 It says "shall reduce by $5" ($40-$5=$35 same as before, just worded differently)

Who would have thought that? Geeze, links to the text of the bills are posted several places include in this thread. :rules:

So to clarify - the renewal fee for those people who ore over 60 years of age is $35. That remains unchanged from prior to this bill.

And $35 for over 60 renewals (same as it was before).

Unless I missed something it did not change the renewal fee for the elderly.

Re: SB 16 - priority bill, reduction of LTC fees

After reading the latest text, what is the status of the honorably discharged veteran fee? I did not see it mentioned.
