Re: College Administrators – The Eyes of Texas Are Upon You!

The latest on campus carry involves predictions of court challenge, although it is not clear to me exactly who would be bringing suit. http://www.houstonchronicle.com/local/e ... er-premium

If a campus enacts a policy of widespread carry, who exactly would be bringing suit? And with what standing or on what basis? The only thing I can think of is that disgruntled English professors will complain that the Univ. President did not heed their clamor for widespread restrictions. So what? I don't see how that clashes with the intent of the law. But then, I am no lawyer.

On the other hand, if a campus enacts a policy of widespread restriction, then I could see gun rights activists bringing suit that the policy does not line up with the intent of the law. And, as the OP article states, there would be political ramifications.

I respectfully disagree, on several counts. There was no accountability in the past, and there is now. That accountability is already being recognized in the public statements of some univ. administrators. Pres. Young at A&M was quoted in the paper basically saying they did not want to appear to be trying to thwart the legislative intent, lest they wind up with a much less flexible law next time around. I think he said that for the benefit of potentially recalcitrant faculty. Several other preliminary stances by A&M admin. lead me to think they are similarly trying to mute the opposition, e.g., by stressing SB 273 in another public statement.
