The detail in the article is worth the price of the magazine.
Unfortunately, I use NAV at work -- and my own tools find things that NAV doesn't catch. On top of that, NAV is one of the worst power hogs around. Used to read most of the PC mags, and won't anymore, for various reasons. ;-)

:iagree:

finding out the hard way that NAV or SEP as it's now called does not do well stopping malware and scareware infections. Several Trojans have slipped past it, causing me great headaches..

Re: Best Virus Protection / Firewall software

it's kinda like the ford/chevy debate, you will have people from both sides of the aisle shouting that their (brand x ) is better than (brand y) ...

We use Norton Corporate .. it's not as bulky as the home version, the 360 is a nightmare.
McAfee is another one.. it's very bulky, seems to slow down a system.
Kaspersky is a good one as well.. but it will slow down a system.
F-Secure is good.. as well as NOD32.

basically it depends on what you want it to do.

if you are a home user and you don't experiment on the dark side of the internet, then you may be happy with AVG, Avast or even Microsoft Security Essentials.. (all free)

if you need something for spam control, then Norton or McAfee may be more what you need.

Firewalls are from Free to paid.. Windows firewall is a joke.. ZoneAlarm used to be a good free one.. Sygate used to be good.. Comodo Internet Security, PC Tools Firewall are all free as well. ;-)

but, I'll throw this out there. If what you had worked, I'd just update it.. you may have more of a problem removing it from your computer and your registry than it's worth changing vendors.. :banghead:
