Re: Retention Holsters for Concealed or Open Carry

Blackhawk Gripbreak
DeSantis Facilitator
Galco M4X and M6x
Hogue ARS Stage One Carry

To make a long story short, only the Galco M6X (belt loop version) earned an A grade from the test team. The details of the reviews make excellent reading.

Galco only lists the compact version of the M&P for this holster; does anyone know if the full sized version would also work w. it?

Excaliber wrote:For those considering open carry, these two sets of reviews alone would more than justify the cost of a subscription by helping you avoid purchasing holsters that won't do the job properly and end up in your holster box collection.
Does a subscription include online access to their issues, or just the dead tree versions? I checked their website but that wasn't clear.

Retention holsters are not required for either concealed carry *or* for open carry.

A retention holster is definitely a prudent thing to consider if open carrying - particularly in an urban area. But not mandatory by law.

I'm looking for a retention holster for my SigP226 that will be a little more subtle in presentation on the belt. I want that "undercover detective revolver" look but using retention and a full sized Sig.

I'm guessing leather but really I'm starting to think that such a thing does not exist. Everything is geared towards a Sig P229.

Are there retention holsters geared towards full sized frames that won't make me look like I'm trying to be "high speed"? :bigear:

I've looked online till my eyes are blurry...

I saw that one, but the release mechanism is pretty easily discernible by a potential gun grabber. I opted to compromise on the leather vs. plastic to get the more concealed release design on the Desantis.

Re: Retention Holsters for Concealed or Open Carry

I'd also like to find a leather, OWB holster w. a retention solution *other* than a thumb break/strap; but haven't had any luck, either.

Wound up ordering a Desantis Facilitator yesterday; I really like the location of the thumb release between the holster/gun and your body. Thanks for compiling this list, Excaliber! :tiphat:
