Re: Solar Power

Reputable panels can be very hail resistant. https://www.energy.gov/eere/articles/hail-no-national-labs-solar-panels-survive-severe-storm I do dabble in solar on some small projects at work and home. Mainly for low wattage remote needs. I too am looking, casually, at installing solar. As a cheap DIY...

Re: How "Prepped" Are you?

The most essential thing I have for emergencies is my coffee kit. Mechanical handcrank coffee grinder .. Little sterno/candle stove. and a pour over coffee maker w filters. If I don't have my coffee there isn't much sense on continuing onward. OK. I just changed my mind. I will be hanging out with ...

Re: How "Prepped" Are you?

Depends on what one is prepping for. My immediate prepping is for short-time disruptions -Loss of job(s) -Loss of health - temporary -Natural disasters - Tornado most likely but maybe a blizzard or a big thunderstorm could leave use without power for a week or more. -General self-defense of our pers...

Re: For those who carry a 5” 1911

I have also found when carrying any gun on my hip that a reload (or two) helps balance the belt carried about the same position on the opposite hip. The reloads aren't the same weight but it seems to not only help with the weight but also the pull of the belt around the waist. Not sure how to descri...

Trump is neither Demo or Repub, he is a pragmatist. He sees a problem and comes up with a solution to fix the problem without catering or caring what either side says.

Re: Mosquito control - cheap

Mosquitoes are attracted to CO2. The yeast feeds on the sugar and produces CO2 which attracts the skeeters. Not sure what the salt is for, probably to keep mold growth down. Mosquitoes are attracted to the greater CO2 concentration in the bottle.

Re: Priorities for 2019 legislative session

1. Remove all off-limits areas for LTCs; 2. Exempt volunteer security personnel protecting schools and students from the Texas Private Security Act. Chas. :iagree: While I agree with reining in how governments can hire lobbyist and how they define their off-limit areas I think that we will serve th...

Re: School Safety Certification Instructor Training Class

I don’t know how to promote it any more than sending letters to every superintendent in the three service centers in my area, at not a small cost. I got four responses. Two decided to use my services. I’ve broken even, so that’s good. I was just expecting a little more interest. Maybe with time, an...

Re: Someone push me...

I am not very active anymore but still have my Yaesu HT and mobile. I used to be a storm spotter with the South Plains Storm Spotting Team out of Lubbock. I had my HT and mobile hooked up in my truck so I could monitor the net and use the HT to communicate with other spotters near me without having ...

Re: School Safety Certification Instructor Training Class

I’m not sure about y’all’s area but several of us out in the Lubbock area haven’t seen a lot of clamoring for SSC classes. Because it's poorly-promoted - period. Heck, I'm a gun- and training-enthusiast who works at a school and I hadn't even HEARD of this qualification until I just *happened* to c...

Re: Light weight summer shirts for concealed-carry

I tried one of those on. Unfortunately they did not fit me right which is odd because an XL is usually no trouble. My wife ended up going to Academy and getting a bunch of the Magellan shirts. $12.74 each. They may have been on a BOGO1/2. They're not square cut. I like them because they are lightwei...

Pepper spray in an enclosed area with how many kids with asthma? My DILs both have asthma. They don't carry pepper spray for fear they used it they would get a good wiff and it would shut them down. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/238262.php "In rare cases, it can cause cyanosis, a bluish ...
