Re: School Safety Certification Instructor Training Class

If you're looking for a place to stay you might look at the Best Western in Georgetown. I told them I was coming in for DPS Training and they gave me the DPS discount. A plus is there are usually plenty of DPS vehicles around and I would think that makes a great deterrent to any locals that may be up to no good.

Sorry, I should have been clearer - I meant promoted by DPS and /or Texas State Board of Education to schools ie. at an official state level to generate demand.

Aside from my interest in the subject-matter itself, a bonus for me was that the qualification is kept on record by DPS - sort of like an advanced LTC certification - so that might be another avenue to promote this cert.
And I should have been more clearer also. I wasn't flaming at you Andy. I'm kind of frustrated that schools aren't very interested, and more so with those that allow carry. I would think that schools that allow their faculty and staff to carry would be clamoring for the "Official State Certification" so they would have that in their defense. I trained one school that were more advanced and better trained than what the School Safety course offers but they wanted it in their hip pocket in case something happened.

Because it's poorly-promoted - period.

Heck, I'm a gun- and training-enthusiast who works at a school and I hadn't even HEARD of this qualification until I just *happened* to catch Scott B mentioning it in a sub-forum I rarely look into.

Re: School Safety Certification Instructor Training Class

I’m not sure about y’all’s area but several of us out in the Lubbock area haven’t seen a lot of clamoring for SSC classes. There are three of us out this way and we all have a different professional segments to draw customers from but we haven’t seen a lot of interest. One of us has had two classes, one has had one, and the third has his first scheduled for this summer.

We do have a fair number of schools around that allow carry so it’s not for a lack of potential customers.

Hopefully it’s better in other areas but with just a few instructors we seem to have reached saturation. Hopefully it will pick up. At least I was able to pay off my instructor’s class expenses.

Re: School Safety Certification Instructor Training Class

Molly was not able to give me anymore information so I called the RSD contact number. To my surprise I was only on hold about 5 minutes. I got transferred to a Mr. Allen who was very helpful and understanding. It seems he had heard that even what we received had changed. He was going to contact Sgt. Bamsch and get the definitive answer.

I'll call him back in a day or two if I haven't heard from him.

Even though is says that additional qualification drills will be done (as a part of the class), the letter of what to bring forgot to say how much more ammo would be needed. I am planning on taking an additional 250 rounds for each gun.

Maybe Charles can tell us if that will be sufficient.

Bill D.
250 should be more than enough, unless the additional drills changed. I brought an extra 200 rds and that was enough.

Chas.
I have been in email correspondence with Molly at the RSD. She has said to "bring as much as you did for the instructors qualification" for the SSC qualifications. Upon my reply of how much we needed for the training she responded that they haven't been told that and hope to get a better idea after the 1st class. She also said her manager was out this week and I should contact her again on Monday to see if she can get a better answer.

Bringing 250 rounds or more for my 9mm pistol is not an issue. I'm borrowing a friends .38 special since ammo for my .41 mag is expensive. I want to bring enough .38 but don't want a lot of excess that I won't use. Any extra will be given back with the revolver but I don't particularly want to give him $70+ worth of excess ammo if we only need a 100 rounds.

I don't fault Molly as I'm sure she was told to send out the initial info and wasn't told any additional information.

Hopefully I will have more info on Monday or shortly thereafter.

Re: School Safety Certification Instructor Training Class Notification

I haven't found a hotel in Florence, no surprise. I'll probably stay in Killeen or Lampasas depending on the class schedule.

School Safety Certification Instructor Training Class

I received, and replied to, the email notification of the SSCIT training on Jan. 26-27.

Class will be in Florence.
