Re: 2013 Texas Firearms Instructor Conference

I was thinking about taking a couple of extra days and taking my wife to Galveston - but the hotels start at $160/day. Anyone know of any less expensive places to stay on the island? Just about everything on the island is going to be high right now, and the places that aren't probably aren't places...

:iagree: If you think you've had too much to carry, you've also had to much to drive as the legal standard for intoxicated is the same for both.

Re: 2013 Texas Firearms Instructor Conference

I google mapped the conference hotel then asked for nearby motels and the Econolodge jumped up. I think their price is in the $40 range. I probably will make reservations closer to the date. Not sure if I'm driving or riding the Megabus, yet. :) Better than the almost $200 range for the conference ...

Re: A short EBT/Lone Star card rant

:iagree: The only thing that makes me madder then that is when they use the lone star card and walk out and get in a brand new Escalade or other vehicle nicer then my 2006 mini van that I drive. Ya'll also need to keep in mind that every foster child in CPS custody is automatically eligible for ben...

Re: How do I find students for my CHL classes?

Has anyone had any experience with paid print advertising? Does it work? I've thought about an ad in the local community newspaper, but not sure if it would just be a waste of money.

Re: Advice request: Moving a large safe up the stairs... Dal

I agree about contacting another moving company, or a perhaps a safe company. He makes it look pretty easy in the video, but I wouldn't want the first time I tried this to be in my house. At least a moving company should have insurance in case anything happens.

Re: School Parking lot question

My wife is doing her CHL renewal, and... She was just told that Sentae Bill 321 makes it illegal for a school district employee to have a gun in there vehicle on school grounds unless they have express writting permission from the district. I just re-read the bill, and while there is no question th...

Re: Letter to Scott & White Hospital

I also agree with the above. It's definitely too long. I would take out the lengthy description of the process and requirements to get a CHL. They don't care. Some of your assertions would be difficult to backup with statistics and may not even be true, such as that CHL holders practice more than po...

Re: Another Eligibility Question

I'm certainly no lawyer, but it's my understanding that a felony deferred adjudication in Texas is not considered a conviction for the purposes of possessing a firearm. Federal law says they go by the laws of the state to determine what is considered a conviction. Based on what you told us, I think ...

Re: DPS on that new section of George Bush Turnpike

I didn't think any local PD could patrol the turnpikes. I thought was the sole domain of the Troopers. I don't think I've ever seen any LEOs except Troopers patrolling a turnpike. Local LEOs can patrol it, but most cities seem to choose not to. Maybe because of the heavy DPS presence. I've seen Gar...

Re: Burglary = robbery?

Under the PC, your weapon can be used to stop the commission or imminent commission of robbery. We also have the Castle Doctrine, stating that if anybody enters your home by force (illegally), you can use deadly force against them, with the assumption being that they intend to do the same to you. A...

Re: North Dallas?

I haven't shot with any of the local groups other than the Collin County club, which I highly recommend. Great bunch of guys. They shoot more often and have more stages per match than any other club I've seen. It's a bit of a drive, but well worth it.

Re: DPS on that new section of George Bush Turnpike

I think the real question here is...How can a privately controlled section of pavement be patrolled with my public tax dollars? The NTTA pays DPS to patrol the tollways. I don't remember how much it was, but it wasn't a small amount. I read that in a news story a while back when tollway speed limit...

Re: Texas Teacher, do I need to be re-fingerprinted?

They told us in the CHL Instructors class that it's an FBI requirement. The FBI requires a new set of prints for each new purpose that a background check is being done. Teacher certification = 1 purpose, CHL = another, so FBI requires new fingerprints. They can reuse your CHL fingerprints for your r...
