Her appeal will be heard. Judge in the instructions did not mention the officer could have believed she was in her apartment or something like that.
I still find it absolutely weird that about 1/7th of the residents who were asked if they had gone to the wrong apartment said they had.
My understanding is the residents were not allowed to paint the doors or put any distinguishing features on them per apartment management
I worked at an apartment complex as a maintenance man. There were 8 buildings and with 200 apartments. There were three brands of entry lock sets for which I had master keys. One time I was entering an apartment to do some work and I inadvertently used my apartment key, which was on the same key ring. The lock opened and it was then I realized I had done used my key. Out of curiosity I checked the back up keys in the cabinet for all the apartments. There were many keys that were the same as other apartments. Not just one or two, many. I didn't do a count, but probably only 10-12 different keys for each brand.
Some 35-40 years ago we lived in a Fox and Jacobs house in Plano. They had maybe four or five different house designs. No less than two or three times a month someone was trying to unlock my door with their keys. I must have pulled into the wrong driveway once or twice a month. The darned houses all looked alike. It was surprisingly easy to get confused about what part of the block you were on. I can imagine how easy an apartment like that would be to confuse.
I was at Whataburger. Returning to my White midsized SUV that looks like every other white midsized SUV there was an unused parking space to left of my SUV. I open the driver door and scare the living daylights out of the guy (who could have been a gang banger) sitting in the driver seat listening to the radio. It scared the words not acceptable on this forum out of me as well. I immediately apologized, as he was still trying to calm down. I said my car looks just like this and proceeded to get in the correct SUV that was right next to him.

Usually when I made this mistake the wrong car door is locked. I now have a ribbon tied to the door handle.

My understanding at Home Depot and Loews, the deadbolt door locks are keyed with like only 10 key cuts.

Amber Guyger, the ex Police officer has filed an appeal to the murder charge.

In my opinion, an employee who is not at work or off duty is on their own.

Federal Judge rules Suit against the City of Dallas lacked something. Dismissed. Not sure if this is a big deal or they will refine with this corrected.

Mentions ice cream again.

If you live in an apartment, don’t leave door unlatched or unlocked.

I have a popular car in a popular color. I don’t have to unlock the car door it does it magically for me when I pull the handle. A while back at a Whataburger parking lot, I scared the bejusus out me and a man in the driver’s seat who was surfing his phone, when I opened his car door. Neither one of us shot the other.

I have put a ribbon on the door handle.

Re: Officer Invades Apartment, Shoots Resident

Trial starting.

Charged with murder not manslaughter.

Prosecutors said she did not know the man.

You park on the level of your apartment, she parked on the wrong level.

Just finished what was described as an illegal 12 hour shift.

Went to the door presented her electronic key and pushed the door open. The door apparently was not latched.

Can you be found not guilty of murder and escape manslaughter? Overcharged?

Didn’t seem to be much there. Meme of a skeleton on a couch with something like Waiting for Obama’s to morn a dead officer. Thin blue line memes. Etc.

Planning her wedding pictures.

This is a tragedy for all.

A real shame.

Investigators said in a search warrant of the apartment of Botham Jean, 26, that they were looking for “any contraband, such as narcotics, and other items that may have been used in criminal offenses.” Investigators later said in a court document that they found 10.4 grams of marijuana during Saturday's search.
“The warrant seems to only be designed for one particular purpose,” Merritt said, “and that is to smear the victim.”
He said the officer's home has not been searched.
Interesting if true.
If this is true, this really is starting to smell bad.
I would say that this would not look good if they did not also search the shooters apartment.

The victim had a round red floor mat at the entrance to his apartment which would give his door entrance a very unique appearance.

The apartment door is a rated fire door just like you would find in most new hotels. It shuts and latches automatically. Thus the door was not ajar unless propped open by a stopper of some kind which still should be there as evidence. They said if the wrong electronic key is inserted you get a flashing red light just like in a hotel.

She had filed a noise complaint with the apartment complex about the victim.

Re: Officer Invades Apartment, Shoots Resident

TV news is reporting, she tried her key, it didn’t fit, but found the door unlocked, opened the door and found a dark figure walking towards her, drew and fired, killing him.

To me manslaughter is the charge, not murder.

I’m assuming at night. Dark figure in her apartment, coming towards her, most likely in fear of her life, she fires. Afterwards finds out she was in the wrong apartment, not her residence, to me a duty to retreat, not use deadly force.

We’ve had a lot of husbands shooting their wives at night after the wife leaves the bed for a midnight snack. To me this is a odd variation on that one. Not a know your target, but a know your residence.

I’m seeing a potential lawsuit against building owners for making floors and apartment entrances too similar.
