Re: Wife Sick with Cancer.

Best wishes and prayers for your wife. I've been through this surgery myself. Recovery is not speedy, but not painful at all. I do know however, she couldn't be in better hands than UTSW and their urology dept. I couldn't use them then as they weren't in my Medicare Advantage network, but they are now!

Re: Wife Sick with Cancer.

Prayers for your wife and you. You are the most important component in your wife's recovery as a caregiver. She needs all of the support and encouragement she can get, and from what I read here, you are certainly giving it. Without you, the road is much tougher. I have been battling cancer for 4 years. It returned after one year of treatments and 4 minor surgeries. Finally had to do the major surgery. Cancer free now for 2 1/2 years. Hang in there with all your love, prayers and support!

Sorry to hear about the setback. I have/had bladder cancer.

As her caregiver, I suggest you or your wife join BCAN (Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network). Lots of great info and support there, just like there is here, in their forums and their info links. The site also offers lots of educational material and references. My urology/oncologist strongly recommended them, and it was the best thing I ever did. Being informed allowed me, in coordination with my doctor to make intelligent decisions. Of course you have to consider that all sorts of advice and info are offered in the forums there. Some great, some not so great, but all in all a very helpful site/organization. Just remember that all of the folks there either have, or had bladder cancer, or are caregivers to those that did or do. Just filter any advice with common sense. Be strong, be informed, and be an advocate, and make sure your wife's doctor keeps you both fully informed. My prayers for your wife.
