I believe that once the case is formally entered into the court process, it comes under the judge’s authority and the DA can’t just “never mind” it. He has to ask the judge’s permission and provide an explanation.
You may be correct. I am not sure exactly how that process works.
A judge doesn't have much choice but to sign off on a case if the prosecution doesn't wish to pursue the case. A judge signing off of it is just a formality.

Houston police end no knock warrants.
Needs to happen nationwide.
Very good to hear Houston is severely restricting no knock warrants.

Agreed that this needs to happen nationwide.
The restriction will be that they will require a chiefs sign-off. I believe the chiefs will be just as eager if not more so to sign off on these things as are the judges. Assolbeto will be demanding on body cameras for those delivering search warrants. What I don't understand is why they weren't required before. Seems to me that if the patrol officers are wearing them, it would be even more important for those serving warrants to be wearing them.

Local media seems to be doing a pretty good job covering this. https://click2houston.com seems to be spearheading the effort.

Is 1 gram very much?

Attorney familiar with drug operations said he would have expected to find scales and unused baggies if it was a drug operation.

Well if my teenage and early twenties mean anything, 18 grams of weed is really not a lot if you are a fairly consistent weed smoker. Don't even really have to be a heavy weed smoker, me and a couple buddies could smoke 18 grams in a matter of few days back then. Especially if we are talkin about what would be called Reggie weed and not what we'd call Hydro or the good stuff. Even if it was the better stuff 18 grams is still not drug dealer amounts of marijuana.
The lady had cancer, as I see it any laws keeping relief from a cancer patient are completely immoral. We have broken down into anarchy when it becomes difficult to discern between the good guys and the bad guys. Then again. It's pretty clear on which side was evil. Storming the gates and blowing away their pet dog and leaving no survivors. Maybe Houston has rounded the corner and is now on the other side of anarchy. I wish someone would explain how this is different than the Kristallnacht. Kristallnacht might have been a larger event, but they at least there were survivors.

This is the part that makes no sense at all. The raid was supposedly to gather evidence. You would think that they would want video documentation. Unless maybe the officers knew ahead of time, that it could be self-incriminating.

Re: 5 Officers Shot In Houston - Pray

People busting through doors and killing their dog, should kind of expect to get shot at.

No cameras, on a no-knock raid? This is totally inexcusable! The only reason not to have cameras in these types of raids is to allow the officers to stretch the rules of law. There was no Black Tar Heroine found, a little weed, some white substance ( woman is a cancer victim). With no cameras it sounds reasonable to assume that the contraband could have been planted , The department had enough motivation. Is there any video of the so called Black tar buy? Maybe there be more information released later. But the couple is dead, not likely to be looked at closely. This will go the way of Las Vegas.

One thing is certain. The only witnesses are the ones who were busting down doors and shooting anything in their way. The couple has a clean record. well liked by those in the neighborhood. A reputation surpassing Acevedo and his department.

Re: 5 Officers Shot In Houston - Pray

It was a daytime Drug raid on people with known gang affiliations. So far it looks like a pretty legit raid on some very bad actors. There are far too many no knock raids gone bad. But this one so far appears to wear the ring of legitimacy even though it went very badly.
