Re: Knife vs belt

It would seem that the belt was not a good tool to attack with -- it did not prevent escalation to deadly force, and may have a partial cause of it. Moral of the story... if you attack with a belt, be prepared to escalate. Alternate moral... don't use a belt to attack. Also, who starts whacking on t...

Re: Intellectual Disconnect....

Intellectual disconnect, Intellectual dishonesty, cognitive dissonance and the like cause stress to a person -- and to every person they deal with. This stress in turn leads to mean-spirited interactions with others, like emotional outbursts and ad hominem attacks, and it also causes high blood pres...

Re: FL:Stand your ground law under fire for parking space dispute murder

If you were to walk out of the store and see some guy standing there chewing out your wife or girlfriend, how would you have responded? Would you not go into an immediate defend your loved one mode? I would definitely come to a measured defense of my wife if someone was chewing her out. On the othe...

Re: OH: Wife finds intruder in her bed holding a hatchet and.....oh just go RTWT

I think I'd have called the authorities and watched the interloper -- gun in hand -- until the cops arrived. Waking the fellow who was armed with a hatchet was not the smartest thing to do.

Re: TX: 3 Houston women murdered in less than 24 hours, possible serial killer

Sounds to me like Acevedo was more worried about the criminal getting hurt than anything else. You may be right. There are different ways his statement can be taken. He certainly acknowledges that CHL (LTC) might have an impact, but he doesn't really state that the impact would be good or bad. I kn...

Re: TX: 3 Houston women murdered in less than 24 hours, possible serial killer

I am glad they caught the guy. He negatively impacted a lot of lives in a very short time. On the bright side, it seems HPD Chief Acevedo is now a proponent of concealed carry... I am not really counting on his ongoing support though. This from the article. "We need the community to help us find thi...

Re: Remington - new double stack 1911

Fair question. I don't have any insight into the magazine compatibility. If they value the legacy customers the magazines should be compatible, but then again the whole debacle with Marlin QC calls into question how much they value legacy customers.

Re: Remington - new double stack 1911

Since Remington bought Para Ord a few years back and since they both make 1911s, it is really no surprise that Remington is (finally) releasing a double-stack with their name on it. Their intent, as I understand it, is to rebrand all Para Ord guns as Remingtons.

Re: The Art of the Russian Mall Ninja

Wow! I have to question the ninja bona fides, though. One of the first rules for a ninja is to be silent and undetected -- he committed a miserable fail on that one. Perhaps seppuku is in order, or then again maybe this video is his form of seppuku.

These youth coming to town don't scare me nearly as much as the prospect of them procreating to make their particular brand of madness multi-generational.

Re: If Cops Won't, then Give Me a Chance

Whether we like it nor not, and whether we choose to accept it or not, in a moment of absolute need only we who are in that moment can be effective first responders, and only we who are in that moment have a reasonable chance to alter events in our favor.

OLJAMES3, I believe that I understand where you are coming from. Words do indeed have meanings. I could be giving the writer more credit than he deserves and he could indeed be attacking those who'd defend themselves. On the other hand, my perception of vigilantism is perhaps nuanced to recognize th...

Re: Chinese firm develops a hand held laser gun

"Non-Lethal" fiber laser, and they talk about one they are developing to be lethal and the intense pain such a device would produce before/while killing. They don't mention anywhere that such non-lethal tools are beyond a doubt extremely damaging to someone's eyes. Non-lethal, perhaps, but still abl...
