Re: Special Session -- 2013

According to this update from a couple hours ago, it sounds like nothing more is going to be added to the session.

I saw those captions. Reading the bill it's, about not allowing Texas authorities to enforce new federal laws ristricting firearms and firearm accessories. It doesn't say anything that I saw about the firearms or accessories specificly made in Texas.

SB9- campus carry
SB16- invalid 30.06 posting on public property
HB12-prohibiting firearms & firearms components made & sold in Texas from federal regulation
HB15- prohibiting state/local authorities from enforcing federal anti-2a laws
I was trying to compare HB12 and HB15. I was not seeing anything in HB12 about firearms or components made in Texas. Where did you see that?

I can only see some minor language differences between HB12 & HB15. I see 12 saying TX authorities can not enfore new fed laws restricting firearm types and capacities etc., if they differ from state law. I understand 15 to have a subtle difference in that TX authorities "may not contract with or in any other manner provide assistance to" Feds enforcing the same types of laws defined in HB12.

There is of course more language about not accepting grants etc. I'm finding it very difficult to see a substantive difference between HB12 & HB15.

Re: Special Session -- 2013

This is a short article on the special session and what topics are getting attention in addition to the redistricting.

In another article from the dallas morning news, the same topics were mentioned along with a comment from the Gov that it's too soon to comment.

"In addition to redistricting, social conservatives have been urging Perry to add legislation to allow the carrying of concealed handguns on college campuses and to ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. Bills on both topics were introduced Tuesday, but only the governor can set the agenda in a special session.

Perry, in a brief news conference, kept his cards close to his vest.

“It’s a little bit premature, with less than 24 hours since we’ve called the special, to be addressing whether we’re going to be adding anything to the call or not,” he said."
