Re: Nerdy 14 year old brings homemade clock to school and is arrested

So what is hoax bomb? And do you show a hoax bomb to your teacher???! In layman terms, hoax bomb is device wired and made to look like bomb but no real explosive material. Something like this yu'all kidos: http://archives.frederatorblogs.com/nicktoons/files/2008/04/classic_time_bomb.jpg So his "clo...

Re: Need advice/info for debt collector calls.

CID is kind of a fun subject for me because I was there at the beginning as a Transmission Technical Support Engineer for NY Telephone Company. If you've never read The Hacker Crackdown, it's a free download - http://www.mit.edu/hacker/hacker.html. In a nutshell, a string of unrelated crumbs leads ...

Re: Nerdy 14 year old brings homemade clock to school and is arrested

. . . As to the red...I already gave my answer in a previous post: putting the disassembled clock in something other than the original enclosure makes it look "homemade." His motive was probably to claim he created something when he actually did not. The case is 8"x5.5"x2"....pretty small...and he ...

Re: Nerdy 14 year old brings homemade clock to school and is arrested

. . . I did somewhat notice that. The photo seems to show a digital clock taken apart and put in a large pencil box. It wasn't like he took components and designed a digital clock. So the thought that he is the next Nick Tesla may be premature. I'm still of the belief this was an internal school ma...

Re: Nerdy 14 year old brings homemade clock to school and is arrested

This is how the waters get tested and the frog ends up getting boiled. There is more here than meets the eye. Common sense tells you not to bring that thing to school. Another agenda is in play here! Be realistic. He is just 14 yrs old US kid, no malicious connections with anyone else. Be realistic...

Re: Need advice/info for debt collector calls.

I got a call yesterday afternoon from a very foreign sounding individual who told me he was in the Master Tech Support Center and that the Master Internet Servers had detected my computer downloading malware. . . . Wow, I said, this is incredible. My computer says this call is a scam and you are a ...

Fleeting fame and no respect at all. Yes, the school got shamed, but the police did what they should have, and after talking to a friend from Irving, I suspect even more so that this was a blatant setup.

Re: Nerdy 14 year old brings homemade clock to school and is arrested

There is another possibility here: The device was designed to look suspicious but be provably innocuous in order to generate the response it actually got from teachers and police who could be foreseen not to use common sense when confronted with a situation like that. It is certainly the sloppiest ...

Re: Nerdy 14 year old brings homemade clock to school and is arrested

It's hard to see details in the photo, but it has AC power, a couple of circuit boards, a display. It could be a clock, a digital voltmeter, or both, any number of things, not including a bomb or baritone sax, or a left handed IWB for a Glock, either. I enjoy and try to exercise my sense of the abs...

Re: Abbreviated profanity

Absolutely agree! I was very embarrassed recently when I referred a young friend to a web site and she was "bombarded" with really obnoxious language just reading a few posts that she thought she was interested in. I have quit that particular site.

Re: Need advice/info for debt collector calls.

. . . I going to buy a boat horn. Again thanks everyone for the help. I'll update with any significant info as we proceed; BTW during the original call I was contradicting what the guy was stating and repeatedly advised her to hang up. She tries to be nice to people but said next time she'll take m...

Re: Need advice/info for debt collector calls.

As has been noted, Caller ID is easy to spoof. If you feel like staying on the phone and arguing with them, point out that you are recording the call, and having it traced (Caller ID is NOT the same as the addressing the telephone system uses to route the call). I was a telephone man for 28 years an...

Re: Anyone notice most refugees in EU are males 15-25 years old

Those are beautiful pictures all right, but those scenes are vastly different when you are on the street in those places in my brief experience, Cairo especially. The tourist brochures are breathtaking but not accurate compared to what you find driving around. Tijuana looks like Beverly Hills by co...

Re: Anyone notice most refugees in EU are males 15-25 years old

Pretty pictures, with some help from Photo Shop, proving nothing.

I just went back and looked at a bunch of the videos from the news, and it appears to me that the OP is right, the vast majority of those fleeing appear to be male in that age range. Are they fleeing mandatory conscription?

Re: TSA fails again - this time with their locks

Gun boxes, the hard case that the gun is supposed to be in, are not to be locked with TSA locks. Your soft sided suitcase can be "secured" with a TSA lock, but that's hardly secure. I can open any zipper bag without undoing the lock just as fast anyway and forget those little combination locks.
