Re: School Employees and the parking lot law

Turns out I was mis-informed. As of the 2011 law ( 52.061), my school's policy is now "employees who hold valid concealed handgun licenses may store a concealed firearm in a locked, privately owned motor vehicle parked in a (school) parking lot or parking garage."

Re: School Employees and the parking lot law

Thanks Keith, but the law notwithstanding, the employee (me) would be challenging their system, and I'm not sure I'm ready to go there.

Re: School Employees and the parking lot law

I teach at a private university. It is their policy that all firearms are prohibited on any of their property including parking lots. That is their right. As an employee, I have to obey their rules (or quit). They do recognize that they do not have legal authority over visitors who may have firearms...

If you have a smart phone, look for the app "Legal Heat".

Re: Front License Plate Display Penalty ?

The dealer did not install the front license plate mount on my (then new) 2006 Mazda MX-5, and I thought it looked a lot better without it, so I left it that way. Six years later on a DPS stop for a (very trivial) white line violation, the trooper not only looked into my eyes to see if I was wearing...

Re: Ammo for Colt 38 Bankers Special

appreciate the offer on reloading - maybe one of these days.

Thanks for all the info on ammo sources. looks like some will be available. I didn't check collector's prices, I have no intention of parting with it, except to eventually hand it down.

Re: Ammo for Colt 38 Bankers Special

quite possibly. It would be a shame to not shoot this thing.

Further research of serial numbers makes it to be 1920 or 1921 vintage. None of the pix I have found show the black plastic handles.

Re: Ammo for Colt 38 Bankers Special

That was what I was assuming, concerning the vintage. Here's a couple quick grabs. The barrel says "38 Bankers Special". I'm guessing the holster is same vintage but no idea. It's pretty hard, dried leather, maybe I'll try some mink oil on it. I have learned that these were only made up until WWII. ...

Re: What were your close calls

This was before CHL. I was in a sports bar sitting near the entrance. A guy had been thrown out for raising a ruckus at the pool tables. He came back with a pistol, shouted something, and fired two shots down the center of the place, then took off. I looked up when I heard the shout, saw the pistol,...

Ammo for Colt 38 Bankers Special

I have come into possession of my grandfather's Colt 38 Bankers Special. Research and S/N indicate it was made in 1928 and was supposed to use "S&W 38" which supposedly is the same as ".38 Colt New Police" (a Colt proprietary equivalent), but other research indicates that this is NOT .38 Special amm...

Re: Just a dumb question . Hospitals ??

And according to my CHL instructor, any hospital associated with a medical school is under the school prohibition and doesn't need a sign. One would be wise to check prior.

Re: 51% patio carry?

If they were a food/bar place, you should pull their TABC license and see if they truly are a 51% place. Some restaurants post 51% signs in the bar area, even tho they are not.
