Re: NRA Life Upgrade - Now Without Sponsor

I finally got around to upgrading yesterday. I've always maintained an annual membership so that I could "vote with my wallet" if the NRA ever took a stance that I couldn't support... but with today's political climate, I figured that the money would be well spent.

Re: NRA press conference LIVE 9:45AM CST

Even though I'm a member, I don't always agree with the NRA's stance on issues or the way they present their ideas. However, this time I am 100% in agreement. I used to think it was preposterous that violent media/games contributed to real life violence... then I read Colonel Grossman's books (On Co...

Re: Springer XDs

I love my XDs, but still carry my XD45 compact daily. Next summer it might get some time in the rotation when a pocket gun is more appropriate for the day than my normal IWB carry. And if I ever start to carry a BUG, it will be the XDs.

Re: List price gougers here

The Feds can drive up FFL costs and will use a law to close the "gun show loophole." Actually, as an FFL, I would welcome a type of "gun show loophole" closure - that a gun show can either exclusively have private sellers or only allow sales by FFLs as a "sanctioned event." The reason I say this is...

Re: Response From DPS Regarding Policies When Encountering C

I think the formatting of the information has resulted in some confusion. . You may be on to something. http://law.onecle.com/texas/criminal-procedure/18.19.00.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The language we have been reading snippets of sure seems to support a NCIC check.. Re: 2 .308 Bolt Guns, 2 Different Visions....

I finally made up my mind on the optics for the GSR. I stuck a leupold long eye relief 2.5x28 on it tonight. Aiming at some "targets" around the house showed that it was really easy to pick them up quickly either with my traditional squint, or with both eyes wide open. I know that this post is worth...

Re: Response From DPS Regarding Policies When Encountering C

I think the formatting of the information has resulted in some confusion. Code of Criminal Procedure 18.19 is not related to the policy of running the serial numbers. It is part of item number 4 in Section 5.09 of the DPS policy. I figured this out after I read 18.19 (it is about seized weapons) I f...

Re: Decisions Decisions

Add my voice into the others that both understand and sympathize with your point of view, and yet still recommend going through the process and complying with the current laws. We're making steps in the right direction by working within the system (thanks largely to the efforts of people like Mr. Co...

Re: Forget license at home

45.15 actually says that 46.02 does not apply, so it isn't really an exception. Since 46.02 doesn't apply (if you meet 46.15), the MPA provisions within it can't apply. Either way, we've gotten into the weeds and we agree on the end result. The real point I was trying to make is that if yo...

Re: Forget license at home

I seriously doubt that the "Motion Picture Association of America" would have much to say about authority to carry a handgun -- well, except maybe in a movie. :evil2: Some would argue (not me!) that you give up the right to carry under MPA when you get your CHL. Ack, it looks like I gave out an ext...

Re: Forget license at home

I'd be shocked if you got anything more than a lecture from most TX LEOs. Just like a DL - if you forgot it, tell me, I will look you up, find your DL, and tell you to remember it next time. Bonus points if you know your DL number, and I don't have to spell your first and last name over the radio a...

TAM is singlehandedly raising Ruger's stock value  I picked up a Ruger Gunsite Scout at the Lewisville gun show this weekend. I'd been wanting one for a while and TAM's review pushed me over the edge. I haven't taken it to the range yet, but it sure does feel good on my shoulder. After finals I...

Re: You'll Love What DPS in Palo Pinto County is Doing!!

My understanding of the 4th amendment issue (and I could be wrong) is that probable cause *is* required even for warrantless searches (except for those that fall within one of the exceptions that has been carved out). However, evidence obtained from improper searches will only be excluded if the sea...

Because I was sitting on a stool and adjusting myself frequently to make sure my shirt didnt slide up. You mentioned that you wanted feedback, so I'll add this. I don't think it has been mentioned yet. Frequently adjusting yourself is one of the giveaways that allow people to notice that you're car...

Re: A "first" when stopped by DPS last night

BIG difference between vehicles and homes and courts have said so. As for fishing, I dont disagree the serial # search could have been fishing (dont know enough to say for sure, but id say likely at this point) but the stop was legit (OP he admits he was speeding). If LEOs don't ask some basic prob...
