Re: Looking at 1911s

i think now a days, production 1911s are not what they used to be. esspecially kimber, their quality fell over the years and and IMO are crud now unless you go with their higher end or custom shop. from what i was told, they took over sig sauer's 1911 line and that now is what kimber used to be. I ...

Re: Looking at 1911s

The PT1911 I looked at seemed comparable to the full size kimbers in quality. Of course I couldnt shoot it, but it seemed to me like a good quality gun. My son has a Taurus PT1911, and it is indeed a nice 1911 pistol... ... for the price . I have a Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry II, which I purchased...

Re: How young is too young?

I took my son for his first range trip at age 7. I bought him a little used youth sized .22 single shot and a brick of cartridges, and we had a ball. He is now my regular shooting partner. He's 18, and he's got a Ruger M77 in .308, a Savage heavy barreled tactical rifle in .308, and a Taurus 1911. H...

Re: How Many Of You Go Unarmed Out Of State?

For the better part of 2006 I travelled, and rarely without my gun. I did have the advantage of three years of TSA employment and knowledge of their rules plus the excellent resources offered here and at Packing.ORG Apparently, Packing.org is no longer a going concern. However, USACarry.com has a m...

Re: A good resource to learn about rifles?

The USMC. They'll teach all you ever care to know about AR type rifles. After buying mine and shooting it a few times, I took it to my local gunshop and asked them to show me how to take it down for cleaning. Then I took it home and cleaned it. That simple. Mine is the Bushmaster Varminter...

Re: How old is your ammunition?

I have a couple of boxes of Corbon .45 ACP, a box of Corbon .44 Mag, and a box of Winchester .45 Black Talons that are all at least 10 years old sitting in my ammo case. I keep meaning to bring them to the range and shoot them up, but I also keep forgetting to do it each time I go to the range. This...

Re: WTB Gun Case for 2 rifles and a shotgun

SKB makes a 4 rifle, waterproof, airline approved travel case for guns. I have a 2 rifle case from them, and it is rugged as heck. Their cases come with a tow handle on one end, and casters on the other, which facilitates getting around airports and such. My 2 gun case easily holds a Remington 700 V...

FWIW, I'm not offended by the idea. I just can't afford to do it.

I just bought one of those myself a week ago. I love mine for it's concealability. I still want a full sized one, but I'll keep my small one.

Re: North Richland Hills man shoots intruder

I recently began a new job in North Richland Hills. It was after I started that someone let me know that NRH can be a little "skootchy" in places. I'm glad I have my CHL.

Re: Can you carry at your favorite range???

I am not sure what the rules are at Bass Pro in Grapevine... I shoot there with some frequency, and I carry into the store, into the range, and up to the firing line. I specifically asked one of the guys behind the counter at the gun range, about whether or not there was a range rule against CHL, a...

Re: Wanted, .22 converson for compact 1911

Ditto... I don't imagine anybody (including Kimber) makes one, but I would be interested in a 3" .22 conversion for my Kimber Ultra Carry II.

Re: So, you trust your centerfire semi-auto EXPLICITLY?

1,000 rounds is a little rich for my blood. That being said, I'm reasonably confident that my H&K USP would do it - if I had the money for the ammo. My 1911s - including my Kimber - I don't know... They are fairly reliable, but I can't truthfully say that I have never, ever, had a jam in one of them...
