Re: Switching to wheel guns this year

So before I beat myself up criticizing all the things I did wrong in the full match video, a couple positives I took away from that stage I posted yesterday. 1) I'm not prepping the trigger as much. I staged the hell out of the trigger in my first revolver match of the year (IDPA with the M10) in Fe...

Re: What is your favorite carry revolver

As mentioned in another thread, I'm carrying and competing with nothing but wheel guns this year. I've carried all of these at one point or another this year. https://i.imgur.com/wvKga90.jpg The easiest to carry is of course the J frame. But my favorite to carry so far has been the 586 L Comp. Re: Switching to wheel guns this year

Been a while. Sick kid, training for a half marathon. Lots of other stuff to occupy me. I'll write a longer post with a full match video (hopefully later today), but in the meantime here is one stage. Static steel with a series of three 8 shot arrays, with an 8 shot revolver. Perfect no fail drill. ...

Re: Your 2019 EDC

Carrying only wheel guns this year.

There's a thread about it.

Until I started having a few surface rusting issues, the old school M10 was probably my favorite to carry.

Right now it's the 586 L Comp instead.

Re: Switching to wheel guns this year

I hope no one is bored enough to actually watch this. I hesitated to even post it, for several reasons. 1) It's just drills, not fun match video, and drills are boring to shoot, much less watch someone else shoot. 2) I cut it down and even sped up a few parts, and it's still 15 minutes long. 3) I ha...

Re: Switching to wheel guns this year

Finally, FINALLY got back out to the range today. It shows that I haven’t been shooting or dry firing much in the last month, everything was rusty and bad. I’ll get videos up tomorrow, but I shot some of my standards drills with the 627 today. 5 second standards: failed at 15y Reloads: shot a 12.8x ...

Re: Switching to wheel guns this year

Someone asked elsewhere if I could provide a comparison shot of all the wheel guns I'm using this year, so I'm copying it over here too to keep the thread alive until I can get to the range and do something actually interesting. https://i.imgur.com/wvKga90.jpg From top to bottom: S&W 627 (4 inch N f...

Re: I’ve spent $300 for less...

Great deal on some very nice guns, and yes - get extra firing-pins if you can. I’ve got two spare firing pins and extractors right now. Not going to dry fire these guns (that’s what Glocks are for) and hope to keep them going for a while. Or at least one of them. They won’t see 10,000 rounds a year...

Re: I’ve spent $300 for less...

That's a great price, and those are very good guns. I had a Star B for several years. I can't validate this, but I have read that the firing pins on these (at least the model B) are cast, not forged, so they can break under dry-firing. I did not routinely dry-fire mine, and still broke the FP. Ther...

Where did you purchase them ?
JG Sales had them for that price, but they've upped it to $180 now.

I’ve spent $300 for less...

Star BMs were on sale for $150 last week, so I bought two. https://i.imgur.com/bBKTDFP.jpg ‘78 and ‘79 production. Trigger on the ‘78 is a little nicer than the ‘79, both are decent. Very happy for $150 each. Guess I’m going to need to take a break from my year of wheel guns only to test them out.

Re: Switching to wheel guns this year

Shot a falling steel match this weekend with the 627. It was below freezing and raining, so not a lot of folks came out. We had 18 shooters. I finished 13th, and was the only revolver shooter. First match with this gun. Like my first match with the M10 from earlier, everything got smoother on later ...

Re: Switching to wheel guns this year

Trying out some VZ grips on the 627. I've always liked them on my 1911s and CZs. Like them so far on the wheel gun too. https://i.imgur.com/qtPI2yp.jpg This is the steel match I'm shooting on Saturday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G43HK1fjxKs I forgot there are 9 shot arrays sometimes. That shoul...
