Re: Are you a 1st generation hunter?

My father never hunted. I don't think he ever owned a firearm. His father died when he was about eleven. However, my dad was active as an adult leader in Boy Scouts, and we did a lot of outdoor activities as a family. When I was about 13 an uncle gave my two brothers and me an old .22 rifle. We shar...

Re: May 2009 Applications

Given all the recent updates from folks saying their license had "gone to print" I figured I'd check mine. As of today it's been 98 days since I dropped the app off at DPS in Austin. After several minutes on hold I talked with a lady who said my application had been "selected for printing". So, I gu...

Re: What is the current Japanese battle rifle?

Wow, what a contrast to Germany, which has since rearmed and maintains a military, albeit a vastly reduced one, and has its own weapons development program. I wonder how much the philosophical (which translates in to the political) difference has anything to do with Japan's having been nuked, while...

Okay, the usual disclaimers apply: I know nothing except my name, rank, and serial #, and there have been time when I haven't exactly been too sure about all of those ... I haven't seen this mentioned elsewhere, although I could easily have missed it -- but in reading through HB2730 (which becomes ...

Re: Turn in your Neighbor for $1000 - Newark, NJ

On the other hand, when you see a crime in progress, don't you call 911? He did specify "illegal" guns. What about Neighborhood Watch programs? Citizens watching out for each other and reporting problems. Some times it is good when people don't simply "mind their own business." Just because this pr...

Re: Turn in your Neighbor for $1000 - Newark, NJ

I guess I am weird but I don't see a problem with the program. I see it being abused by gang members getting revenge on their opposition but the basic program is not illegal or immoral. Whatever happened to minding your own business? I feel it is fairly immoral to attempt to set up citizens to watc...

Re: mossberg and weatherby shotguns

Nothing against semi-automatics, but don't discount a pump action shotgun. I find that I can get off a second ACCURATE shot with a pump about as fast as the guys with the autoloaders. Often they shoot before they have really lined up their second shot, and waste the ammo. Plus, if you keep it at hom...

Re: May 2009 Applications

Based on recent history, it looks like the typical wait is almost 100 days. I guess that means I should look for my plastic around the end of August. 13 May 2009 - CHL class 21 May 2009 - Hand-carried application to DPS 25 Jun 2009 - PIN Received As of 22 Aug: Still stuck at "Processing Application"...
