Re: Close to end of session, feeling blue - are you also??
I'll wait 'till after this session ends to articulate what I think about the inefficient practices of this legislature. Considering the 6000 + bills still on file this session, and assuming maybe 20% of those bills have enough teeth to be considered, with 14 days or so left, they'd have to process ...

Re: Close to end of session, feeling blue - are you also??
SB11 & SB17 already made it to committee? Which should be a Pro 2A committee right? .....if it goes out of committee it goes to the floor for a vote...correct? How is Strauss going to stop that? Maybe I don't know how the process works, but NO WAY one man is going to hold up the entire show whe...

Re: HB308
It also changes how we can carry in a polling place. You still cannot carry into the portion of the premises where the voting is going on, but you can carry into other portions of the building. This is good for early voting locations like Randall's/HEB where currently the entire building is off limi...

Re: Campus Carry revived, attached to open carry
Not for HB910 unless this amendment is removed. Sec.A411.2035.AAMUNICIPAL REGULATION OF OPENLY CARRYING HANDGUN. A license holder may not openly carry a handgun in a municipality with a population of more than 750,000 that has adopted an ordinance prohibiting a license holder from openly carrying a...

Re: Campus Carry revived, attached to open carry
I'm trying to look at this somewhat optimistically. I have to believe there is the support for campus carry in the House however it will never make it to the floor with Strauss as the gatekeeper of the Calendars Committee. The Senate already approved campus carry, so it isn't too much of a stretch t...

Re: Campus Carry revived, attached to open carry
Would we get that house amendment for no-reason to stop an OCer? The version of HB910 sent to the Senate that would be amended with Campus Carry was essentially the Senate version of the bill with the following amendments by the House: 1) OC does not constitute Probable Cause for a license check st...

Re: Campus Carry revived, attached to open carry
Well that is one way to get around Strauss and the UT regents and it allows the Senate to look like heroes even though the bill that eventually passes will originate from the House.
I have certainly received quite an education in politics watching this session and these bills in particular.

Re: HB910 on House Calendar for 3rd Reading
Saw this article linked on Facebook and found the response to it to be VERY good: http://kxan.com/2015/04/22/police-association-open-carry-bill-disturbing-aimed-at-law-enforcement/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Yesterday, I was asked by our friend Erin Cargile at KXAN Aust...

Re: HB910 on House Calendar for 3rd Reading
I don't think he is necessarily saying a chl holder. Any crime that is discovered because a person was stopped for open carrying, even open carrying itself, could be tossed out because the cop did not have cause to stop the person. CHL aside. Imagine a murder suspect who was picked up just for prop...

Re: New bills about cops
Video storage and retention, as well as servicing FOIA requests for the video are the larger issues than just having the cameras. Many of the officers I know would like to have body cameras, but there is a lot of additional expense that the department would have to absorb for each officer to have a ...

Re: Call-To-Action: HB2405 Gutting TPC §30.06
Regarding TPC 30.06 as it is today, I don't see any positive changes needed to it, other than maybe make the offense a Class B instead of a Class A misdemeanor. I think it should be a Class C. That is one of the improvements in HB308. Class C unless a repeat offense in which case it would be Class ...
