Re: Reasons to get a 1911 and which one?
Maybe we ask too much from the 1911. I mean, Mr. Browning was working on it several years before military input culminated with the 1911. Ammo came in one single flavor: .45 FMJ. It was more than a half century later when shooters first attempted to run JHP ammo through them. And what little feed ra...

Re: Your Chosen Defense load: How much can you trust it?
I think its not so much the ammo as it is the shooter or accuracy of him/her. Practice in real world type situations as much as possible, learn your weapon or weapons like they are another extension to your body. Shot placement is definitely the highest priority. Always has been, always will be. Th...

Your Chosen Defense load: How much can you trust it?
The only way that you'll get identical results to FBI testing is by testing with an identical gel block of the correct composition, and then at the controlled temperature. The real science behind Quantitative Ammunition Selection comes from predicting penetration and statistics by firing into water....

Re: Reasons to get a 1911 and which one?
JRG, if you're still weighing different models, there are several good ways to go. The Rock Island Armory and Metro Arms 1911s get great reviews and most likely represent the best affordable quality. I took a Remington R1 in trade that is really nice, including a high luster finish if you prefer a 1...

Re: Need Hornady Data for 6.5 Creedmoor
Selecting a powder for a given job is definitely more difficult than just following the pack. I'm gonna give a link for those who are loading the 6.5 CM, or think they may in the future. The article is about very specific powder selection with Quik-Load giving the precise numbers. For accuracy loads...

Thanks for the reply, DocV. I do tend to use Silhouette the most for 124 gr JHP defense loads but True Blue is another good one if I'm chasing accuracy with excellent uniformity as measured by extreme spread and standard deviation. As luck would have it, I've done some testing with the "in-hous...

Okay, so call me a heretic for bumping this thread in hopes that it can be seen by as many readers as possible. Or, consider the handload I used as an example earlier. I knew that Charles Schwartz would like it, so I sent him the data I posted herein. I heard back from him on Monday with the reactio...

Re: Blackhawk Holster Recall
The Canik TP9sa I bought 4 years ago came with a "Serpa Blackhawk Style" holster. Never concerned me enough to find out if Serpa was the OEM, but it's a ringer if not. No problems with it and it's fine for the range, but the release being on the side didn't inspire any confidence. I decide...

A great discovery for higher velocity 147 gr. 9mm loads.
Another load we tested last Friday that had previously chrono'd 1092 FPS from the Canik TP9sa was with the Winchester 147 gr JHP that Midway sells at a very good price. From my SP's 5" M&P Mod 2 it chrono'd 1118 FPS. Depending on who you ask, that's the velocity of the speed of sound at sea...

Re: Magazine repair question
I was kind of taking for granted that the FEG can take the Walther mags. They are very similar pistols and if there were one notch above clone, I think it would apply to the FEGs. The patents for the Walthers expired many years ago where any pistolmaker could copy them without legal issues. If the m...

Re: Magazine repair question
I suspect that your FEG is a Walther PP clone? Wolff should definitely have mag springs and if it is as old as it sounds, a new recoil spring as was suggested by flintknapper, would definitely be worth adding to the order. Just an FYI, but the FEG clones of the Walther PP & PPk were very highly ...

.357" 158 gr. XTP
I intended to test some snub loads in .357 in conjunction to a thread in the general section. Didn't know until Friday that my SP was a lucky dog who won a raffle on Thursday and brought along a brand new S&W 4" 686 Plus. That's as long as I'd want the barrel length to be for a 7-shot comba...
