Re: SCR 39
Are the states willing to forego all Federal moneys? For the most part, these "Federal monies" are just Texas monies that the feds taxed from us, took their cut from, then returned to us with strings attached. We would be far better off to forgo Federal monies if that meant that we as a s...

Re: Nascar carry question?
To answer the original poster, it is clear in the law that you can have the gun in your car. You cannot carry on your person into the stadium. To answer the other question, 30.06 only applies when you are carrying under the authority of your CHL. In a car, you car not violating any law (MPA made it...

Re: Brady Bunch moves to influence 2 reps on campus carry
I think Universities can implement administrative rules that govern student and employee behavior, including prohibiting the possession of a firearm anywhere on University property. No penal code is broken by carrying on the grounds, but there might be other repercussions if you 're student or empl...

Three statisticians were duck hunting one weekend, and after some time, they finally spotted their quarry overhead. The first statistician raised his shotgun and fired. **BLAM** He missed. "Too high, I reckon," he lamented. The second statistician quickly raised and fired as well. **BLAM**...

I called them both about 15 minutes ago. As it turns out, they were actually in the Public Safety committee meeting at the time. Both aides took a record of my opinion but neither offered an indication of how the rep might vote (and I didn't ask).

Re: SB730 Employer Parking Lot Bill Passes Senate
BTW, did the folks opposing the parking lot bill make any arguments, either at the hearing or otherwise, based on property rights of the employer? (I am having some trouble getting the video of the hearing to play). How was that countered? It was brought up briefly, but I don't remember how it was ...

Re: ACTION NEEDED! Employer parking lot bills
I think employers could try to play games, but IMO the majority of them will just figure out how to rightfully meet the law or open up their lots to have it in their car. They would probably be surprised at how many folks do it already and just keep their mouth shut so no one knows it. Agreed. Reme...

Did I understand Sen. Hegar correctly in saying that he wants to amend this bill to exempt school parking lots? Do we know why he wants to add such an amendment? I support the bill as it stands and would still support it if amended, but I hate to see teachers denied equal protection.

Re: ACTION NEEDED! Employer parking lot bills
I see that there's a public hearing scheduled for the Senate version of this bill next week. I'm new to Texas and politics in general, so I have to ask... How does the public hearing work, and what can we do to help make sure our side is fairly and accurately represented? For those of us who aren't ...

We've actually been discussing a similar topic on another board I frequent. I won't post a link because the guys tend to be pretty vulgar, but here's an (edited) excerpt: I grabbed a 2-year-old by the collar before he ran out into the street. I looked afterward, and there weren't any cars coming, bu...

Re: The Brady Bunch has caught on the campus carry movement
Let's make sure Texas is not the first state to pass legislation to allow guns on campus. They have nothing to worry about. Utah beat us to it. As have many other states that permit individual schools to set their own policies. "Guns on Campus" legislation was rejected in all 17 states wh...

I called Sen. Shapiro today and spoke with a staff member. The young lady said that the senator has not yet taken a position on either bill and is open to input from her constituents. I expressed my support for both bills and followed up with the reasons why. The staff member agreed to pass those al...

I don't push the "white letters on glass" or because the english and spanish were the same color, thus failing the "contrasting colors" requirement, but I think the 1" letters requirement is extremely clear. If they meant 3/4" letters were close enough, they would have...

Re: Urgent Action Items: Parking lots & campus-carry
I just got off the phone with Rep. McCall's office. He was in committee meetings, so I left a message with his staff. I tried to hit the talking points on both bills and requested that he consider signing on as a co-author. As an aside, which do you guys recommend - calling or faxing? I prefer to ca...
