Re: Field sobriety test
Yours had a much better ending than the one I followed for over 30 miles and could not get a single officer to respond. It was around thanksgiving of 2001. I was in Oklahoma headed south to Dallas on I-35. About Exit 24 a drunk got on the highway headed south. This turkey was from the northbound la...

Re: DPS trooper running serial numbers?
Just 3 years ago we probably ran less than one person a day that had a CHL, now we probably average at least 4 per 8 hour shift. Out of all of those we probably average only one request to run a serial number per month to a month and a half.

Re: Negative Trooper Encounter
Just like in the novel, we don’t at first understand the John Gault’s of the world, then just as the heroine begins to consider John Gault to be the Destroyer she comes to understand that he’s not the Destroyer but the one who has the sense to bring the world back to it’s senses; however she never a...

Re: Negative Trooper Encounter
(Steve you'll recognize some of this) Remember this is a "Shall Issue" license, which means if you meet all the requirements then the state MUST issue the license. Now, just because someone meets all of the legal requirements set forth, that doesn't mean that they are 'squeaky' clean. It j...

Re: Negative Trooper Encounter
With MDC that have a TCIC/NCIC Terminal when you run someone by DL or Name/DOB you get a hit come back that the individual has a CHL. Running the TLETS terminal here at Lackland has opened my eyes to just how easy some information is to obtain but other information isnt. Yeah, all the terminals wor...

Re: Negative Trooper Encounter
Russ, thanks so much for a very interesting insight into the operations and how things work. I found your posts fascinating. Sometimes you in law enforcement don't get the thanks that we all owe you. I for one says " THANKS! And hi! I'm Joe - AA5LD. :txflag: Catchy call sign. I like it! ;-) Th...

Re: Negative Trooper Encounter
CCH is the most valued of all information. There are times that we can't give the Trooper's the CCH info because of rules and regulations. Then why isn't there a 10-code for it? DPS won't say phone call or drunk because those have 10-codes, but they're perfectly happy to broadcast CHL status in pla...

Re: Negative Trooper Encounter
Better yet, why is there a need to "run" a serial number??? More to the point, car stereos are stolen more often than guns, so why aren't they checking the SN of any aftermarket stereos they encounter? We could, given the Trooper had PC to run such; most likely they don't. Remember, I hav...

Re: Negative Trooper Encounter
Our guy lost his money and his weapons, but learned a lesson... always check your weapon to see if they were stolen, no matter who you purchase them from for they might have inadvertently purchased a "hot" item and never knew it themselves. How do us citizens check if a weapon is stolen a...

Re: Negative Trooper Encounter
Heck, today alone I probably had at least 15 CHL stops ran through my terminal with not one serial number requested. Are you a DPS LEO or a Local Fort Worth LEO? This thread is about the possibility of DPS Troopers being directed recently to "run" weapon serial numbers when they find them...

Re: Negative Trooper Encounter
So your computers are not connected to any other databases or the internet? You don't coordinate any information in any way with the FBI, etc? Just playing devil's advocate here. Heck, there are programs which can record every keystroke made on a computer. There could be hidden programs running rec...

Re: Negative Trooper Encounter
Of all of the stops that involve CHL's, and because CHL holders are becoming more numerous, more stops are being made; without actually putting tic marks to track them, I'd say less than 1% of the stops result in a QG being ran. (Check serial number for stolen.) And I know, because it is a real &quo...
