Thanks for the updates Tex. Interesting numbers as I thought there were more School Safety Instructors. Glad you had fun,
Motrin, Ben gay, and your Chiropractor are your friends for us older guys recovering from the class.

Re: TX: one dead at shooting during police protest in downtown Austin tonight
Absolutely nothing on TV news or local newspaper since the original newspaper article from last week saying that jury selection would begin on 27 March. I would really think that since we are in the local Fort Hood area that local media would have some daily updates, but no, total silence.

Re: TX: one dead at shooting during police protest in downtown Austin tonight
I will be watching this trial closely. Would never have gone to trial and original determination of justifiable self-defense would have stood had Austin NOT elected a George Soros backed DA. Over 2 1/2 years that this Soldiers life and career have been held in limbo as the Army could do nothing and ...

Re: CHL and Competition
I checked yes but have not competed in a few years. Used to do Steel Challenge, a little IDPA, and a few 3-gun matches. First Covid closing a lot down and then getting older did not help. Now, just some informal stuff among friends.

Re: Help needed - Large Gun Safe on Laminate Flooring OK or Not?
I have a really old Treadlock Horizontal safe (don't think they even make it anymore due to safety with the lid issues). It is 53" long by 23" wide and 18" deep. That means that there is less PSI for the footprint than if it was a stand-up safe. We have had it on a vinyl laminate floo...

Re: NM: Hand gun with trigger pulled by Alec Baldwin in rehearsal kills one injures one
YGBSM! So how did Baldwin kill this woman? This is a big part of what is wrong with our criminal justice system. The use of a firearm in a crime is frequently dropped due to mandatory sentencing provisions. My bet is that he will be convicted of Involuntary manslaughter and well get 18 months probat...

Re: El Paso Walmart Shooting
It occurred in Texas, the perpetrator was a resident of Texas, most of the victims were residents of Texas. It did not occur on Federal property nor did the perpetrator cross any state lines to commit the crime. So, exactly how is this a Federal crime and not a State crime?

Re: When should I get notification
Legislature needs to end (usually May as they are only supposed to meet for 140 days for a regular session), DPS needs to determine what if any changes are made by the legislature, determine if any changes are needed to the test or instructional outline, and THEN we will figure out if it is going to...

Re: TSA Seizes Record Number Of Guns At Airport Security Checkpoints
I always emphasize to my students that if you are carrying, you should ALWAYS know where the firearm is, what condition it is in, and NOT carry into a known prohibited place. We go over extensively how to legally fly with a firearm and what parts of airports are prohibited. Had a colleague several y...

Re: Got pulled over in Fort Worth
Sounds similar to a situation I had back in 2005 with a DPS Trainee except the Trainee was a bit more excited as I WAS carrying. Be polite, be professional, follow the officer's directions, and know your rights. Deal with the issue with a supervisor later if need be.

Re: First Responder Training 21-23 Sept
Tex1961, Whatever gun you use, have a back-up (with holster and at least two spare mags with holders) just in case. For the Beretta, you will be required to have the decocking lever engaged at the start of each drill. Before the class, get comfortable with your draw (as always, unloaded with ammo in...

Re: First Responder Training 21-23 Sept
Tex1961,
Good luck and have FUN. Probably the best DPS class I have attended. My only issue was "Glock Knuckle" from firing so many rounds in 3 days. Nothing that a band-aid could not cure, but I later had an undercut done on the trigger guard. Let us know how things go.

Re: Anyone Else Remember Gibsons?
Worked the gun counter at the Gibson's in Garland, summer of 1970 (had to get away from the summer job at Pollock Paper, too hot and tough working conditions, Gibson's was air conditioned). Had a lot of good deals on new as well as milsurp guns. The GCA of 68 was still fairly new and record keeping ...

Re: Texas Made Suppressor Law update
Do not have a can yet, but just ordered a threaded barrel for my Glock 19. If cans come off of the list requiring a tax stamp, will definitely get one for the 19 and the 44.
