Re: do I need a CHL for this?

Boy, this is really interesting stuff. I'm surprised it ISN'T apparently a cut-and-dried deal. The law is an interesting subject - much of it is open to interpretation. That's why there are lawyers and judges. I know that part of the intent of the law is to prevent someone from bringing "uninv...

Re: Burn rate, Fast or Slow

I have always used fast burning powders for target loads [punching paper]. They have always been accurate and have lower residue. Depending on the price of a pound of powder, they can be cheaper on a per load basis.

Re: do I need a CHL for this?

As I said earlier, I've read about cases where someone obviously had to be carrying illegally before defending himself (before car carry was legal). If it was justified self-defense and the defender was not a felon, the authorities overlooked the illegal carry. This has long been the case in Texas....

Re: What do you suggest for a "Chimp Gun"?

"The chimpanzee started flailing its arms. The officer shouted at least twice that he was going to shoot," the report said. Maybe this isn't as strange as it sounds. I have read on this forum that some people yell commands at dogs to stop them from attacking. Chimps are much smarter than ...

Both addresses should match. The actual CHL plastic card is used as the address label when it is sent out.

Re: Ques. for LEOs or well informed

I don't know about the current state of the law in Texas, but back in the 1960s in California I was told that driving with your shoes off was A) illegal anyway; and B) cause for a statuatory rape charge if you had an underaged female in the car with you, and she had her shoes off. This has been an ...

Re: do I need a CHL for this?

He has to meet the definition of carrying on or about his person to get it there, and to use it if he needs it. When I say "needs it," I don't necessarily mean an immediate need to shoot, but something like knocking on the door at 2 a.m. or the dog going nuts. - Jim So you are saying that...

Re: do I need a CHL for this?

Please read PC §46.02 and PC §46.15 and show me how you think a person who does not have a CHL can take a handgun into his girlfriend's parents' house. Ncongruent offered one theory, and I responded to it. Jim " A person commits an offense if the person [he] intentionally, knowingly, or reck...

Re: NW Harris Co Home Invasion, and Thinking Security

I guess I'm just baffled that I can't easily locate folks who offer just such a service. I applaud your friend's efforts to improve the security of his family. IMO he is going to have to continue to research and educate himself and his family on these topics. The NRA Personal Protection in The Home...

Re: do I need a CHL for this?

wondering what the legality on this might be: assuming I was spending the night with my girlfriend at her parents' house, which she is taking care of, is it legal for me to bring my gun over there for the night? IANAL but since he is not carrying, I think it is perfectly legal for craig_o to bring ...

Re: do I need a CHL for this?

The O.P. asked what was legal. I don't make the law. I am not a lawyer. When answering this kind of speculative question, I try to think like the most hard-nosed cop or prosecutor, because that is the worst-case scenario. - Jim The original post asked if he could bring his handgun to his girlfriend...
