Concealed carry with LTC allowed at the State Fair.

3 hurt, shooter in custody.

Dallas Councilman Adam Bazaldua said the shooting was "sparked from a conflict between two people who knew each other."

This is why I carry a 8 shot .357 with a reloads of 8 rounds. You can’t go anywhere anymore. My wife carries also. I told if I run out of ammo that I get to take her gun :)

America has become a third world middle eastern country. So much for their brand new metal detectors. I guess they could have been LTC holders. I sure hope not.

The politician have already started that legislation like permit-less carry cause these things. No permit-less carry at the fair that I know of.

Ummmmm...............State Fair or not, that area of Dallas is not safe during the day and definitely not safe at night.

After hearing about the shooting, the wife and I are glad we decided not to try to attend the fair this year.

The State Fair allows Licensed Concealed Carry. They do not allow open carry or permitless carry.

We were down there a couple of weeks ago. As you enter you go through a metal detector. I showed the attendant my LTC card and he, politely, escorted me to the police officer. The officer looked at my card, asked me to keep in concealed, and encouraged me to have a good day.

The second day we entered, we went through a side gate near the livestock shows. The attendant couldn't get our tickets to scan so he waved us through. No metal detector, and the other attendant with the wand, didn't even look at us.

This is the biggest problem with most security I have seen. If it is not complete security with no person exempted and no other entry points, it becomes security theater instead of actual security.

When I read the story, my first thought was that I thought they had metal detectors for everyone. Then I said that someone did not go through it.

I'll be curious, since they caught the guy, if he had/has an LTC and how he got in i.e. what gate he came through. This being said, the saying goes "Nothing good happens after.." and you can fill in the blank on the time. I enjoy going to the fair. I turned 52 this year and I've been to the fair the most in the past 5-10 years than I've had any of the previous times in my life. But... I always go during the week and I always go early in the morning and I'm usually out by 2-3 at the latest. I have ridden dart the last few times to avoid dealing with traffic and parking and glad I am able to carry. It's one of the few times that I'm in a crowded environment where I see such a diverse mixture of people and you just never know what you are going to get.

I did some digging on a couple of news sites and found the following.

https://www.dallasnews.com/news/crime/2 ... -of-texas/
According to police, one person was arrested after running from the scene of the shooting. Officers also recovered a gun at the scene.
Dallas police identified the suspect as 22-year-old Cameron Turner. He was booked into the Dallas County jail early Sunday morning facing at least one aggravated assault charge. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.
Instead of metal detectors, fair visitors walk through what is known as an “open gate system.”

https://www.fox4news.com/news/state-fai ... sures-2023
Instead of walking through metal detectors, visitors will be screened through what is called an open gate system.
"This is going to be where you won't have to take your phone out of your pocket. You won't have to put your bag down. This is going to read through all of that. This is the latest and greatest technology when it comes to detection. We're looking for weapons so this is going to be able to detect any of that as people walk through it," Condoianis said.

Finally a picture. Not from mainstream U.S. media. One wonders why.

Very interesting.

For those that have been to the Fair this year, have you noticed a change in their security procedures going through the gates?

We've been the last 3 years.

Year 1 - Entered through the stockman's gate both days. Never had anyone question, look at our tickets, or even glance our way. I guess they thought we were with the folks bringing livestock, even though you couldn't bring livestock through that gate and we didn't really look like someone that would be bringing livestock.

Year 2 - First day went through gates/metal detectors (or whatever they are called). Presented LTC to attendant who pointed us toward officer sitting in elevated stand. Officer looked at LTC, told us to keep them concealed, and wished us a good day. Second day, went through stockman's gate.

Year 3/a couple of weeks ago - See my post above.

Others in our party pushed a stroller around the detectors. It was not checked. It seems that they are more concerned with the person and checking bags, and even then, I don't know that they checked them thoroughly.

There is no security if someone can enter an unattended, or minimally attended gate, and not checked or items, i.e. strollers aren't checked. Any "security" they have at other gates is moot.

Couple of years ago, went on "Military Appreciation Day" where all Military ID holders got in free. Went to the designated gate (do not remember which one), wife and I showed ID cards and were given "Military Appreciation buttons" and waved through--no metal detectors. I told the attendant that I had a LTC and was carrying and was told "OK, just keep it concealed." DPD officer was about 10 feet away and just smiled. Sounds like a Texas State Fair security issue.

We went Thursday and entered through the Stockman's gate. No one there to wand and only 2 for ticket collection. No questions asked.

Ya definitely sounds like training is leading to a lack of security at the fair. Which leads further to the thought that you will be your own first responder. I really need to get into a habit of carrying a tourniquet and IFAK on me regularly.

Had this pop up on my Google feed on my phone. Interesting reading. I can see how this system can be fooled with a combination of lack of training and laziness in the part of Fair security.

What are the 'weapons detectors' outside the State Fair of Texas?

CBS News reported in an earlier version of this article about 2 deaths that occurred in the Fair Park area BEFORE the State Fair opened this year. Fair Park is a dangerous part of town. Not at all surprising that with lax security that gangs would be active there.
