Open carrying may have prevented him from being a victim. The element of surprise means nothing if you can’t employ it. Criminals usually avoid strong targets and those they fear will fight back.

1911 Raptor nails it. If this kind soul was OC there is a high probability this does not happen. There is no tactical advantage in cc. It is a myth. Many times criminals will tell police that they went after what they thought was the soft target. We all want to be SA all the time but that never happens. We are distracted, for what ever reason, a lot during our day to day activity. I think that the FN strapped to my side is there for me when I am not as aware as I should be and any person wanting to do evil has to think twice before engaging me and will move onto that soft target, armed or not, it makes no difference. He will get closer, faster and then it is to late. To each his own. I OC all the time especially at any Walmart that late at night.

I hope everything works out for the 'elderly' CHL victim. :headscratch I can't imagine the circumstance that would have this elderly CHL holder out anywhere; especially, a Walmart at 11:24 PM?
