This came to my attention thru the social media site Nextdoor, and really caught my attention because I used to live at this apartment complex.

A Richardson officer was fatally shot while responding to a disturbance call at an apartment complex, and police late Wednesday night were attempting to negotiate with the suspected gunman, who they said had holed up in the same complex.

The officer's death was confirmed just before 11 p.m. The officer's name has not been released while Richardson police work to notify family and loved ones.

Shortly after midnight, police announced that a second person had died. No details about that victim were released.
Perlich said the gunman, whose name has not been released, surrendered. Witnesses said the suspect could be heard shouting "I'm sorry" as he was being taken into custody.

Terrible tragedy. Prayers to the officer's and civilian's families. Shooter is mentally ill.
